I recently sold my working air suspension to “axp2948” for $600. The suspension was removed from my CLS by a professional (you will understand why there is emphasis on this in a few minutes) with several witnesses who can attest to the working condition of EVERYTHING on my car. I replaced the suspension solely because I hate Airmatic. The technician who removed the suspension, my mechanic in NY, and MULTIPLE people who drove the car/rode in it (including members here) can post and tell you that it worked before listing it for sale. I have also been buying and selling things here (including multiple cars) for years without any issues.
AXP2948 purchased everything from me about 6 weeks ago and brought it to some unknown freak show shop that specializes in plugging tires. He called me and told me ALL of the suspension was bad with the exception of the front left. I immediately got nervous but still agreed to have my mechanic in NY (A certified Mercedes and ASE technician with his own Mercedes specialty shop) CONSULT his “mechanic” in California. The mechanic STARTED by putting his foot in his mouth when he told me the RIGHT shock was now good but the left was defective (opposite of what AXP2948 told me), along with the rear bags, AND compressor. He sent me a picture of the codes and my friend explained to him that they either had a bad connection in multiple places or screwed something else up entirely. It was at this point that “axp2948” opened a claim with PayPal and I called them to warn them that I feared he would send me back my formally working suspension – broken. PayPal took note but STILL refunded him his money and sure enough I got back damaged rear bags in a demolished box with poor packaging. I am suspicious of whether this is even my original suspension but unfortunately have no way to prove or disprove that in particular.
Basically, short of shipping me back a box of bricks - this guy went above and beyond to screw me. This is NOT someone I advise people to deal with. He is a scam artist who doesn’t know anything and has morons working on his car. He also damaged my suspension to the point where I can’t actually sell it with a clear conscience now costing me $600. Anyone who knows these cars knows it’s damn near impossible to have all these codes I’ve attached appear simultaneously on a car.
So if any of you guys are suspension savvy you will know this is absolute Bull. This is the picture he sent me initially (and he said all shocks are bad except the front let) we can clearly see here that all of them have a fault. When my mechanic friend talked to the shop he told them 2 things that can be wrong. 1 the shocks are not plugged in. or 2 the harness by the Valve Block melted and needs to be replaced (a common issue) but his mechanic had no clue where the valve was or what it does. So clearly they had no idea what they were doing, also when asked what type of computer they use to diagnose Mercedes. they said Snap-on LOL, that right there was the icing on the cake (the Mercedes scanner was "borrowed" from a local shop)
So after carefully packaging the suspension which cost me $135 to ship to California, this is how I received them back today
Cliffs:
- The car was misdiagnosed from day one
- AXP2948 decided to replace everything with mine
- The car got misdiagnosed AGAIN with my suspension
- My suspension got destroyed
- PayPal screwed me by only backing the buyer
- AXP2948 converted the car to shock and spring because his tech couldn’t fix it (He returned my parts in the Arnott conversion kit box).
I would be VERY wary of both him and the shop he used (Exact Motorsports in Milpitas) since I know there are quite a few 55 owners in that area, make sure not to bring your Mercedes or German car to these Hacks/Tire Changers
This is why I hate using PayPal. Personally when I sell something, I don't wanna see it again. If there's something genuinely wrong with it then yes but they have to prove it. I've sold Airmatic suspension before and took cash and told the buyer to get it installed and let me know when and where so I can make sure it's fine, better yet I sent him to my mechanic friend so I knew I wasn't gonna get screwed. If the struts were bad I would give the money back, I'm not gonna be an ******* but if they're not and they just change their mind and go a different route, no refund.....unless it's a five finger one
Happens to vendors all the time. I sold a ECU tune and the customer flashed the car and filed a claim with paypal and sent the cable back. He was from Florida.
Yeah I hear you man. That is why I tag off EVERYTHING I sell and take pictures of the tags so if customer sends back something I didn't send, I can show proof to PayPal.
sorry to hear. probably replaced yours with his that was going bad.

Well guess what I asked Paypal about that and they didn't care, their policy is as long as the item is returned back to you the buyer gets a full refund. One thing is for sure im done with Paypal (I have been a customer for 10 years) if you are a Seller you pay the 3% fee and shipping cost and who knows whatever fees on top of that and get ZERO protection, while the buyer gets it 100%
This is disgusting, so far (knock on wood) I have bought many things from forum members and have had good experience with them. What was this users name for future reference as I also sell some stuff on here and would not like to be scammed like you. Is there no pictures you have from when you removed the airmatic to show the before and after condition?

Was there money in your paypal account? I thought I read somewhere that paypal cannot pull money from your linked bank account any more. When I sell through PayPal I immediately have the funds transferred out, keeping a $0 balance.

that wont help much as you go into Negative balance. just like me at the moment and do you know what happens if you don't pay after 45 days? They send you to collections so yea pretty much PayPal and E-Ghay can do whatever they want with your money. This is just a good heads up to some ppl who deal with PayPal but are unaware of their "sneaky" policies
Collections eh? I'm sure somewhere in their user agreement lies the "ability" to do so, however, legally...maybe consult a lawyer if you want to ditch paypal. At least you got something sent back to you, whether it's still good or not who knows.
Anyways, I bet the guy who bought your stuff thought that would fix his problem, when it didn't he sent it all back and used the money for other purposes, like you're some kind of retail store with a return policy. The right thing for him to do was to resell the stuff himself. Sucks either way, live and learn I guess. I've been selling on ebay for over 11 years, never had ANY problems until this past year. Sold an intercooler pump that was like new and working, buyer claimed it didn't work and returned it. Tested it, and yep it was dead..I suspect he wired it backwards or something else. Then I just had 2 non paying bidders, wasted my time. Lot's of flakes out there nowadays with no respect and no interpersonal skills.
Try to see if you can sue him in small claims court. When he doesn't show up, you win a default judgement and then you can send him to collections. It's well known that paypal always sides with the buyer which is great for the buyer but sucks for the seller if the buyers are scammers.

Ouch man, I totally agree with this. He probably screwed you with his old junk.
Always mark your parts with paint marker or better yet scribe your initials in a inconspicuous spot take pictures of it before you ship it.
This is why wrecking yards mark all items they sell. If you had done that you would have a case with paypal and you can prove he scammed you. Paypal does not take well to scammers.
