MB dealer refuses to change trans oil. Code P2560, No issues felt with trans.
Just got back from the MB dealer. They are hooking me up with a 15% discount on all service. But, are refusing to change the trans oil without my signing a consent saying they are not responsible if the trans has issues after changing fluid.
Stored Code P2560
Can doing a ESP off burnout to dry off the tires cause this?
It doesn't say when on star, so they say.. The car drives perfect, shifts fine.
"SA says he's worried that changing the fluid and filter can cause issues and the trans starts slipping he doesn't want to be responsible"
Anyone know what can be the cause or if I should be worried. Now he got me worried about the trans having some issue after he changes the fluid.

FWIW 2560 is code for 1st gear slippage. If you do move forward with the fluid change, have them get a picture of what the pan looks like when they drop it. How many miles are on your car now?

I was telling him he should clear the code, then I will drive around for a week and come back to check if the code P2560 comes back. How does that sound?
If it does, then I should replace the conductor plate? Should I have them pull that tranny plug forget what its called and see if oil is coming out?
Engine is all stock, No power adders, 141k on the trans. Changed fluid twice every 40-60k miles..

Ya that's why I said check fluid first because when the pilot bushing(13 pin connector) was leaking I was losing trans oil. So check fluid, then clear code and come back.

Ohh, was it leaking bad enough to where you would see it on the floor? Leaking bad enough to pass the unde belly tray and leak out? Or was it all being caught on the under tray?

I don't remember. So, where does it leak when it leaks? Just inside the sensor?
OK will need to know if the plug is dry and the level is ok. Then what can cause that P2560 code? Does a burnout cause that?
More importantly, should I be worried? I like to keep everything in tip top shape.

That won't be for a few days so I wanted to get some answers before hand. So I have the info before I even show up to get the car.

+1 on Hulk's suggestions. Verify fluid level and that pilot bushing if fluid level is low. Once you rule those out, then pursue the electrical route(conductor plate) before going mechanical. Have them clear the codes and drive the car for a while and check if the codes return. If it turns out to not be electrical or fluid, you will now when the pan is taken down which you would have to do to swap the conductor plate.

How long do the clutches in the trans usually last on these cars without mods?
How does the dealer check the fluid level? Same with dipstick or can they do it with star?

You have 140k on your transmission. The clutches will not last forever. If it gave a you a code for slipping, I would bet it detected excessive slippage. They will use a dip stick. The dealer doesn't want to touch it because of the amount of "ever since" customers they get, and then they usually some of the repair cost for the customers vehicle.
Just drive the car and either keep some money saved for a rebuilt or keep on eye on craigslist. There is one for sale in Seattle for $800.

At 140K and getting trans codes, it is not hard to believe the clutches are worn out.
There are 100's of stories of failed 722.6xx transmissions after "Power Flush" transmission services at Mercedes Benz dealerships.
I would send it out for a rebuild/upgrade before any real damage happens.

Great info! I was thinking about options to think about in the future. I was thinking a rebuild would be more cost effective for long term then buying another used tranny?
Can any good transmission shop perform the rebuild. If I supply them with the parts? Any reccomendations on where to buy the parts? How much does a trans rebuild cost? Are they reliable?
As these cars continue to age this will be something everyone will need to deal with at some point. What are you guys thoughts, Anyone have experience with a rebuilt trans?
Any other options besides southern hotrod?

I say don't fix whats not broken.
I had my trans rebuilt at less than 60k miles. (2nd gear slip after a dyno). car now has 71k miles and shifts perfectly.
cost me 3200 tho

I felt my trans slip going into 5th gear at full throttle at Road Atlanta. I was in "S" mode with the pedal hard down and it rolled into 5th and free revved for a second and caught. The shift wasn't harsh or rough. I have thought about draining a little fluid to take a look at the condition. 99K on the ODO. I'm not really too worried about it since those speeds are impossible to reach on the street. Also, short shifting on the highway into 5th at full throttle doesn't create any slip. May of been a glitch/freak occurrence.

They are gonna check tomorrow. I think the cap needs to be replaced right? because its a one time use locking plug for the dip stick right? Or can the level of trans oil be checked with star?

I'm with you on that one. As long as the trans connector is not leaking I should be good. If it is, then I will need to drain the fluid and change a few things. Will NOT be doing any power flush or any type of flush. Just a simple drain and refill with new filter and plug connector. IF it's leaking.

Update: Got car back from dealer, everything went smooth, got the 15% discount, car runs great, back to normal, red battery light off, no codes.
The trans oil level was fine. Does anyone remember what color the MB trans fluid is? Is it blue?
Gonna get the car on my buddies lift and will inspect the trans connector plug, if its leaking. then will change it myself. Does anyone know if the connector plug can be changed without dropping the pan?

Yes, you can do it in place with out removing the pan. You will lose some ATF half cup (I use Shell 134) it is light red.

Doesn't the dip stick plug break when you remove it? So I will need to swap that when I ad the half cup back into trans?

the dip stick cap is a one time use and you will have to get a new one. they are only a few dollars.
you will also have to buy the dipstick to check fluid levels, which is a totally different thing. For some reason mercedes didn't include an engine oil or transmission fluid disptick on the car and you have to buy one.
use shell 134 as it meets the current better spec on fluid. I bought a 12 quart case of it on ebay earlier this year for $180 shipped. you can mix ATF, but unless you have been using shell 134 it is advisable to get as much of your old out as possible as the new fluid spec is significantly better than the old. They are compatible, but again having the newer superior spec fluid in it is always going to be better.
