e63 rear tire configuration: 295/30/20 on 20x10.5 +42 ...will it rub?
Im currently running 295/25/20s on the rears and it's time I got new rear tires. I called around and it seems that a lot of companies don't carry that size. The 295/30/20s are a lot more common. I'm a COMPLETE newb when it comes to tires so I guess I just want to make sure these would fit before I make the purchase. Thank you!
I'm running a 305/25 on the same size wheel and offset. It took some fender rolling to make it fit. I think a 295 would rub at least a little without any rolling.
I found a local guy with the proper tools who did mine for $15 per fender.

I decided to keep the 295/25/20 size and went with Nitto Invos. I saw your post on another thread about you running 305s and I contemplated going that route as well. Im thinking of adding some 5mm spacers to my 295s.. do you think i still need to get my fenders rolled? I ask because i have zero rubbing on the rears with my 295s..
I have the 295/25/20 on mine also and the quarters are rolled. There's not many brand options on that size. I've been thinking about the 305/25/20 but not sure if there would be any rub. The 295s are close, thought about going to a 285/30/20.
Here is a good calculator to use.
SO the 305/30/20s DO NOT FIT lol. I repeat.. DO NOT FIT... with Toyo Proxes T1Rs anyways. It's simply too tall. I tried removing the fender liner but it was still rubbing RIGHT where the electronics were. Ive been running 295s NO problem. I'm still debating whether I should try 305/25/20s. I know people have done this but I'm not sure if theres more to it than just getting your fenders rolled.

Denroll, first off I have a newb question.
Are the inner quarters rolled up at all from the factory?
My background is collision repair and I've never seen any rolled up like the ones on my car....but I've never worked on a MB.
I thought about using the 305/25/20 but wasn't sure they would clear since the 295 was so close.
My wheels are the VSF1 Vossens. the wheels were on the car when I bought it and think the rears are 10.5. At least that's what I've found here. http://www.getyourwheels.com/view-wh...ll/vehicle-all
So I guess my question is what did you have to do to make the 305s fit?
Also just how close it the tire to the edge of the quarter and to the splash shield on the inside?
And how close to the shock.

Please let me know the results. Pics are always good.
I need to replace my tires but want as much info as possible just like you do.
I'm running the 295/30/20's . I did a minor quarter roll before I painted the car. I do fine with two people in the car but even a couple of light girls in the back seat is pushing it . Minor contact if there is the slightest bump in the road with four people in the car. If I was going to go bigger than 295 I would recommend slightly trimming the inner lips in conjunction with rolling them. I just did that on a Lexus LS 460 F Sport that we got 11x22's on and it dropped down nice with the factory air ride .
@tlambert i'm still waiting on the tires to arrive at the shop. I'm hoping that it'll get here by today.. if not i'll get them on friday. i'll take some pictures of the set up once I get them

Nice, thanks for letting me know. Do you have any pics?
Ok I checked out the inside rolled edge of the quarters. I understand now they are factory rolled and the plastic liners sit in that rolled edge.
So now if you roll/ flatten that edge even more what happens with the liners in the lip? Can they still be removed?
CarbonHan did you get those tires put on?
Let's see them!
i've been patiently waiting for delivery of the tires since last wednesday from Americas Tire Co. It's been frustrating looking at my 63 in the garage on jack stands for the past week.
I've been told that the tires will arrive tmrw in the AM. I'll post up pictures once theyre put on.
Here is my E63 on 305/30/20 (pirelli pzero) , it rubbed the outter lip on acceleration. Went down to 295/30/20 (PSS)and the fit is perfect. My fenders are not rolled, nor is my rear lowered.
305/25/20 will work for sure but I'll never go under a 30 series tire again, you give up way to much ride quality below 30 it's horrible.

With my T1Rs in the same 305/30config I couldn't even bolt the wheels onto my car. It was rubbing on the inside fender liner right where all the electronic components were located. I've been running 295/25/20s for about a year and a half now and it's been pretty comfy My m5 is on coilovers (8k/6k sr)though so I may be used to the abuse haha
M-Theory's pics should show you exactly what you want to know. The 305/30 is just a little too much . I'm running 295/30/20 as he is now and they are fine. My car is lowered also. Many people prefer the look of the 295/25/20 because of the lower sidewall . I personally like the beefier look of the 30 plus it is a little more forgiving on bad roads.
Got the 305/25/20s mounted and had my rear fenders rolled. These barely fit. I have my car lowered via STAR and at its lowest setting I have about as much space as a credit card is thin. I've driven it around normally and theres no rubbing so far. I may have to go a degree or so negative on the camber just in case.
