What do you guys think of the new Audi A6?

Looks OK, but what's up with its kisser?

I like the way Audi uses the old BMW style "driver oriented controls". I guess since BMW is abondoning it, why not use it?

Looks very similar to the new A8 (which is an amazing looking car). Can't say that I like the interior as much as the outside though.

I'm liking the more cleaned up, I guess, interior with some chrome touch ups. Honestly, I think it should be cleaned up a bit more, by removing some of the clutter of buttons.

Sorry. It looks too much like my kid's gold fish. Mouth opening wide for food.

Love the interior. That front end would have to grow on me.

Real Cars
Resembles the Phaeton a lot, which is also a great looking car. My thumbs up to Audi, this is a great looking car - I really like the interior too.

I look forward to their S6 and RS6 variants!

Thumbs up

Coming from an older gen A6...(2000) it will take some getting used to but at the same time this new A6 came out better looking then those "photochoped" future guesses of what it was going to look like. I give it a thumbs up

It is a gorgeous looking car although I don't like the rear end too much

But they have done an extraordinary job of merging a bit of a retro look with the classic Audi A6 look and making hte whole thing look modern.

I like the old A6 better but the interior looks better. I said I liked the old A8 better as well but it looks nice now. Ummm, why is the redline so low in the picture? Is it a diesel?

hey guys,

i like it.
Audi did a much better job than BMW did with the new 5's.
the E class and the A6 are the class of the segment.

I really like it too. I'm a big fan of Audi's new look for the A8 and A4, just wish they would have used their classic nose on the new A6. Guess they need some kind of unique styling cue to stay trendy. I certainly wouldn't mind an S4 or new S6/RS6, and an RS8 would be awesome. But the wife says she hates the Olympic symbol on the car and Audi's S/RS get no respect from the average person on the street.

If only they could take the status luxury clout of MB, the styling and interior of Audi, and the performance of BMW - that would be my perfect car. I used to just love BMW, but their current flame butt styling just isn't for me.

I had a previous generation A8 and test drove the new one (twice). Exterior is very nice, interior very nice....but waaay too sluggish when it comes to performance.
The A6 interior is not as nice as the A8's and just feels stodgy to me.
Compared to an E500 (competing models)? the E alllll the way.

Thumbs down

I think it looks like someone tried to cross breed the new chrysler 300C with the new Ford 500 Hundred and this is what was born.

Being a current Audi owner, in general I like it the interior seems to be put together nicely....but the center consule seems a little Saabish / Volvoish to me. The front I will have to wait and see it in person. I did not like the current A6 in pics and only when the A6 4.2 with the flared fenders was released did I truely like it.

I can't wait to see it in a RS verson....

Agreed....too slow for my taste RS8 with a W12 biturbo would be the way togo.

Audi's S/RS get no respect from the average person on the street
Disagree, I can't tell you how many times people come up to me on the street and talk to me about the car and not just car nuts. It is a bit strange to me as I have never owned a car that has gotten any attention. It is not for everybody and it does have its short commings.....but it does get respect.

MB AMG-

I was just up in your neck of the woods doing 5 days of snowboarding in Whistler / Blackcolmb and then two day in Vancouver. Beautiful area and everyone is so friendly...love it up there, this was our third time.

Welcome, Bauer.
So how about a summary of your impressions of the RS6 vs. S8?
I had an S8 on order in '00 then backed out for an AMG.
I must say that, performance limitations aside, I loved the A8 and remain very disappointed that Audi doesn't get a little more credit for their recent products. Those who keep up with car technology seem to appreciate them, but mainstream appeal still seems like it lags. That a nasty impact on resale values.

03 RS6 01 S8
Sorry this is a little off topic...but you asked

The S8 is a awsome car but totally different then the RS6. S8 is a great all weather highway cruiser, we have an extra set of rims with Dunlop M2/M3's for going to Lake Tahoe.....love the car in the snow. Power is much better than a base A8 but could still use a little more torque as the AWD and Triptonic eats it up pretty good. The car is noticeably stiffer than base A8 and the front Brembro's work very well on the car. Though they could use some better pedal feel as you have to kind of get into the pedal a bit. The suspension set up(S8) along with the aluminum body makes the car feel a lot smaller than it is (at least that is how it feels to me). The seats are FAR better in the S8 than in the RS6...much more supportive and comfortable. That is my only real complaint about the RS6.

As for the RS6, the suspenssion is noticeably stiffer than the S8 but not to the point of being uncomfortable. The DRC works fantastic in keeping body roll in check on the steet but get it on the track and it can take some getting used to. A coil-over suspenssion set up would be better suited for track use but would probably be too uncomfortable on the street so the DRC is a good balance IMO. In the power department it is no contest...I would LOVE to get the Cosworth V8 tt in the S8 and chip it to about 520 hp and 525 Tq...but not practical...but who am I kidding none of these cars are "practical" maybe a Honda civic ....ya like that will happen. As far as the breaks are concerned the RS6's are fantastic for street use but on the track they get too hot and crack pads(stock). The rotors, although a floating design do not vent the heat well enough. I have already gone through one set of pads in 10K (dealer COST is $500 a set) and the rotors are next in line....soon. The feel of the RS6 breaks are addictive and give you a very high level of confidence. The steering feel and response on the RS6 is night and day to the S8. IMO it is way too numb and light in the S8. I think Audi did a great job with the steering on the RS6...being AWD and front heavy. Then there is the exhaust note on the RS6 (I have the sound enhancing exhaust)....everytime I start the car it brings a HUGE grin to my face . My wife now wants exhaust for her car (S8) since we got the RS6.

In short I love both cars but they are again just too different and though my wife drives our S8 at club / track events and loves it, I just couldn't. The RS6 is civil when you want it to be but a monster when released. The S8 is great all around car but could never be the monster.

Oh, and as far as resale values are concerned....you are right they typically suck for Audi but that is depends on how you are buying. The S8 we got used with 7500mi and 20K off sticker..so that worked out. The RS6 we got new(MSRP) and will have to wait and see what happens. Truthfully, I have never bought a cas as an investment and I just reserve myself to the fact I am going to loose money....on the other side its great therapy

Thanks for the excellent summary.
Wish I could find an RS6 to test one day....they're scarce around here.
(Sorry to divert your thread MB AMG....but I haven't yet seen a first hand opinion of the S8 and RS6 from same owner).
