legacy of the 211 e63
Hello gents... I'm putting this outhere simply because I'm curious of what the outside world thinks of the 211 e63.. Needless to say that the e55 leaves a great legacy behind... just wondering if the e63 comes close to leaving such a legacy... all I see on these forums is basically how the e63 doesn't come close to the e55. only positive factor I see is the e63 front end conversion for the e55 guys lol .. and all honesty when I was shopping for my car I was looking for a e55.. didn't think I could touch a e63 since I wss buying cash but I ended stumbling on one and I jumped on it.. and proud of it.. but just curious, is it Mercedes ugly step child? not literally speaking about the ugly part but u guys know what I mean..

2005 E55
It seems to me that people with in the AMG world see the E55 as leaving the larger legacy but from car guys on the outside, the 6.3 motor appears to have the larger legacy.

The 2003 e55 really started the horsepower wars. It will always be a major icon in automotive history, especially luxury tune markets. The way the community and modders took the engine to the next level only added to the legacy.
I think the e63 legacy is more tied to the 6.2L NA, which is it's own legend. So I feel the E55 fits a unique niche in history, the e63 is just a small part of the larger 6.2L legacy.
Either way they both are amazing

The legacy is tied more to the motor than the car IMO.
In "modder" circles, the M113k has a strong following.
In pretty much every other circle it isn't even a contest - the M156/159 has the stronger legacy. Heck, the upcoming AMG GT3 in the customer motorsport program is sticking with the M159 over the newer M178 - that says a lot in it of itself.
Personally, I passed over a pre-facelift W212 AMG wagon for the W211 E63. To me, there is something special about an all-motor, all-AMG developed engine in a RWD mid-sized wagon with 3rd row seats from the factory. I feel so fortunate that AMG even allowed such a creation to be built, let alone sold in the USA.

all really good points.. I guess is just isn't many 211 e63 owners outhere and I kind of see y some e55 guys put the e63 down.. mainly because of the head bolt issue and the reduction of torque... on the head bolt issue I'm hoping and praying it doesn't happen to Me.. and I don't think it's a widespread issue.. on the torque issue... IMercedes had to reduce torque mainly because of the 7 speed transmission but that in itself should make up for It.. and really, can that small reduction of torque b that big of a deal? I drove a 2004 e55 a few yrs back and really can't remember if there was a different feel to the e63

07 C230 (sold) 2009 E63 AMG (SOLD), 2015 E 63 AMG S
I am a new 09 E63 owner and even before deciding to jump the gun and purchase a E63 I did a lot of reading the pros and cons. One of the biggest pros was the heart of the beast. N/A 6.2 did it for me. The biggest con was the head bolt. As far as performance, Ive driven various E55s and don't really notice a drastic change of power. Even though its a 5+ year old car, I am completely happy with my purchase. Coming from a V6 2.5 C230 to a V8 6.2 E63, let me just say. I cant get enough of the torque/power.
