Just looked at the dimensions and I am now convinced Mercedes design department are retarded.

The width has gone DOWN since the W212, which was already a pretty small car compared to its rivals.

What do these people have against wide cars, I don't understand. The new M5 is 1.88m wide. It dwarfs the W212 and looks like a monster. I saw a black on black one the other day, and even though it sounded extremely bad, it looked IMPOSING and tough.

I'm not even gonna talk about the W211 which is A LITTLE wider than an A CLASS!! That's a small hatchback and guess what, the A CLASS actually looks bigger, it's denser and fatter whereas the W211 looks like an anorexic clinging on for life.

So the W213 is slightly less wide (longer but less wide) than the W212 and it's the next gen which means the next 5 series and A6 will render it a motorcycle

So glad Lamborghini and Ferrari don't have retards for designers, Aventador is 2.05m wide, YIKES!! Saw one the other day, honestly looked like it was gonna eat someone, not short in length either. Nearly as long as the W211!!

Aussie cars are designed properly in that department, shame they don't actually know how to make the car good and the interiors are usually shocking. American cars are nice too in that department, Challenger Hellcat and the new Mustang, the Chrysler 300, the Charger etc etc

So ****ing sexy.....

NOT!!

The E60 M5 actually hasn't aged at all, it looks tough and sexy even though it's over 10 years old and that's because it's bigger and thicker and fatter and tougher.

**** the new skinny W213, the W212 and the W211. Thought they would finally learn with the new W213 but guess what, they've now decided to go backwards. The W214 will be narrower than the W210, actually narrower than the W208 CLK

Might want to check your specs? The W212 is 1.85m wide, or only 1" narrower than the M5 you mentioned. 1" in body width is nothing.

Yes but this is the next gen, the next 5 will be wider I guarantee, it always is. The point is, would a Roll Royce have as much presence if it was smaller? Size is important and can really justify how expensive a car is.

The new interior looks amazing so I'll give them credit for knowing how to design when they want but why do they have this thing where BMWs are always wider than Mercs?? The E39 was wider than the W210, the E60 wider than the W211 and F10 wider than the W212. Aren't Benzes supposed to be BIG. Even the new C class compared to the new M4, it's not even close. I saw an M4 the other day and man do they look mean.

The E39 and the W210 were identical in width.

You did agree with my assessment months ago where I said "The only good way to widen an E55 is to cut it down the middle and add the extra material there."

hahaha I'll leave that project to you Love the W211 but not that much. I guess I find the W211 facelift AMG look very sexy and exotic looking. It's just missing the proportions and the size. When you park it on the side of the road and stand far back and look at it, especially in black, it just looks so beautiful. I've honestly never obsessed over a car like the W211 (facelift AMG). Everytime I see the front end design I imagine how awesome it would be if it was the face of some WIDE coupe (SLS, SLR style). I just can't get over that FACE it's kind of like a girl with the best face but having the worst body, extremely skinny, anorexic and unhealthy looking....all she needs are some slight curves and to look healthy

I love the way my CLS looks now (C218), it's nice, it's wide, the rear to me is very very nice, the front is ok, nothing to brag about, and the overall shape to be neat and looks good from all angles BUT, it doesn't feel traditionally Mercedes from the outside, it's amazing but it's not a traditional sedan. The W211 is a very nice shape (with some tweeks), it's the most "Mercedes" looking Mercedes I can think of. Just wish it had a concept car body, concept cars always look crazy but the actual version ends up being heavily watered down.

W211 is history though but what annoyed me about the W213 is, BMW is gonna go even bigger with the next 5 I guarantee it and now the E is staying the same, something it hasn't done ever before. I feel like that's going backwards. I mean imagine if they hadn't made the E bigger and it stayed the same from the W124, the E would literally be smaller than a 3 series and I don't care how well and and how nicely they design it, SIZE MATTERS!! I once parked my W211 in front of a 2003 Camry and the Camry looked bigger
