stuck caliper

Rebuild or replace with re-manufactured? I've rebuilt single pistons before, wasn't sure about a 8 piston.

I have a used passenger side caliper that needs the lower metal crossover tube replaced.

Same principle to rebuild. Comes down to money, your toolbox/garage and part availability.

Personally, I always rebuild everything on my own but I enjoy teaching my son how to wrench on cars so I might be the oddball.

my main concern was how to pop out 8 pistons, checked around and doesn't seem too difficult. I think the issue is the spring plate on the brembos. The metal starts corroding around it and then as a result, pushes the spring plate down. The pad binds/cant move and stuck caliper. I'll know for sure when I take it off tonight.

FWIW - I've always pulled off the caliper and pads and then used brake pressure to push them out.

I haven't had to do this on the SBC system, but it works well on conventional brakes when the pistons are so frozen you can't move them by hand. Usually, once they get moving, you can then pull them out the rest of the way by hand.

You may need to use a socket or block of wood to keep the "good" pistons from pushing out until you get the stuck ones to move.

I had both of my fronts rebuilt due to the inner lower being seized. Only one was successful due to excessive corrosion on the drivers side. Ended up having to buy 2 new ones. Good luck with rebuild.

Took everything off this weekend and cleaned everything up. Initially the pistons would not budge, only after some prying did they start to move freely. Put everything back together and still had the same issue. I am thinking its most likely a collapsed hose as initially I could not move the piston, and then after prying them they moved. This would be the first time I've experienced one. Appears to be a common issue on w211's
