Hello all,
Im a recent college grad who did the sensible thing and blew a good chunk of his first year's salary on a used car!!! Anyway, now I'm the proud new owner of a not-so-new 2007 E63 (hard to believe 2007 is almost 10 yrs ago). I was lurking on this forum all throughout my 5 month car search and have been using it weekly since I bought the car (I have had it for about 3 months now) so THANKS to everyone for the good info.
This is my first performance car and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. The car is in great shape (esp the interior) and runs like a top. My only concern is the car consumed about 2/3rds a quart of oil in the 3K miles I have put on it. My extensive research on the forum here only left me me more confused as half the people claim this is normal and half the people claim their cars have never once burned a drop of oil. I will continue to research but any further input would be appreciated in the meantime.
I'll wrap this is by saying its only been 3 months and this car is quickly turning a die-hard bike guy into a car guy. I look forward to hearing from all of you and am glad to be part of this community!

Welcome. Please use BigKermy as an example of what not to do on the forum. These engines are hand built, one mans experience may differ from another due to builders.

congrats on your new ride! not many 63s here so glad to see another My car consumes zero oil and I drive her like shes meant to be driven. If you can, look into a premium aftermarket warranty. My investment into one has paid for itself 4 times over in about a years time.
and yes.. please learn from bigkermys mistakes lol

i dont think oil consumption has much to do with the builders themselves. i believe it has much more to do with the break in of the engine. almost all the AMG's come with a break in instruction guide stuck to the windshield because its especially important with an AMG. yes i agree that mercedes tolerance for consumption of up to 1qt every 800 miles is excessive but 2/3 qt in 3k miles is not a concern at all. some of these engines just burn oil. i dont know if anyone remembers but the SLR's came from the factory with 1qt of Mobil 1 5W-50 in the trunk for top offs.
