Guys with wide band dashdaq kit

So I just picked up the new nDash unit with zt-2 to start monitoring AFR's amongst other things.

Taking the car in on Monday for them to install the bung for the O2 sensor and seems to be a bit of varying ways to do it.. Ie install the sensor at 45deg to the flow, Mount it on the side of the exhaust versus from the bottom etc... I would obviously like to get the most accurate readings and wonder if anyone has some advice/pictures to share on where exactly they placed the O2 sensor in the exhaust. I have a full custom exhaust on the car massive headers, and 88mm pipe.

TIA

tech edge has some useful info on this and sensor cross-referencing, etc

make sure you click on the hyperlink "Sensor Installation Guide that's worth printing" ... and open the 6-page PDF, that is where the real detailed gold can be found .

Peter (Tech Edge) has an interesting line of products. I have one of his "2y1" loggers which is comparable to the zeitronix equip (which I also have/use). BUT, Tech Edge stands out as having a ton of info on sensors which they have always been happy to share (my kind of business)

Cheers,
Chis

Cool will definitely be getting into that tonight. Unfortunately I already bought the Zeitronix equipment as we a bit limited with what's available here but am sure the information there will help alot. Was thinking of getting the zt3 kit as well and another O2 sensor and monitor both banks, which sounds like that's what you are doing

I was not saying that TechEdge equip is better (just that I have both TechEdge and zietronix and the quality/usability is comparable)... so there is nothing unfortunate about your zeitronix purchase. If anything, buying zietronix makes good sense as it is far more commonly used by members on this forum.

Cheers,
Chris

Iv had the old zt2 silver display for over 10 years good unit and trouble free. Used it on many cars. It looks fine mounted on the steering column and the font and alloy casing semi matches the factory gauge cluster.

As long as you install the o2 sensor in a vertical position weather it be about 0 to 45 degrees your good to go really. Its just for moisture destroying the sensor really. I always give mine the 10 second warm up before starting the car and never had to replace a sensor.

Ok so changing this up a bit.. My car mod dude has pulled out of wiring up my new Dashdaq and the Zt2 kit..
Unfortunately the kit is rather generic with the wiring instructions and there is no breakdown for our cars.. The ecu has like 100 wires coming out of it, not the Zt2 had about 12 wires if I recall but how on earth do you know which wires to tap into on your ecu? Eg, boost sensor, TPS, etc.. I don't blame the guy for pulling out as he is worried about incorrectly wiring the ecu into the system and blowing the ecu up... Any have a wiring diagram specific to our cars that I can have a look at? Did you guys install system yourselves or get a auto electrician to wire it up?

I would love to see a good write-up of how to wire up various monitors, including what types of splices/connectors should be used. I too am a little nervous to go hacking into the wiring on this car!

Id be surprised if the factory boost sensor is the right bar reading to be compatable with a zt2 but I could be wrong does anyone know as if it is I'll wire mine up? Usually you buy zeitronixs map sensor and install that.

TPS and all that other crap I wouldnt even worry about. All you need is wideband, boost and maybe EGT if your tuning it.

You can buy a 12 v ciggy socket male plug and wire it up to that then you can remove it so people cant steal it!

Awesome so you saying the Zt2 just needs power and then 02 sensor plugs directly in.. The rest of the wires on the 12 pins are not needed to be spliced in anywhere. That makes it alot easier. Regarding your boost sensor, I guess that won't need to be plugged into the Zt2 as you can just select the obd as the source and read boost from the stock sensor thru obdii

You've got to read the instructions it clearly states what wires do what. Just methodically go through them and solder or crimp them into the correct wires. Its simple stuff 12v to 12v ground to gound then all the different colour wires and their functions are listed in the instructions. As I say the simplest way to do it simply go to your local electronics store and purchase a male ciggy lighter socket that will plug into your cars cig lighter socket. Then run 12v to 12v and ground to ground (there are multiple wires to ground on that ZT2 harness).

Some wires in the ZT2 harness need to be tied together to "program" the unit to how you want it to display/what you want it to display.

What I found was the displays harness was to short to run it directly from my zt2 which I wanted in the glove compartment. So again I went to the electronics store and bought those rj style phone plugs a double ended (same each end female) plug and an rj phone jack style extension (its the little square ones not sure what the number is on them). Crimped it all to my liking (as I have the rj crimper tool) and it was all go.

I almost did the cig lighter plug adapter as well but the power access behind it was so easy to do. I really didn't like the option of having the cig/lighter/adapter door open while driving because an adapter needed to be pulgged in.

Yep just depends on how you use your wideband. I use mine in multiple cars and I dont like leaving it in the car for theifs. I must have like 3 sensors so I just leave them in the cars and swap the zeitronix unit between them. I even have one with a tailpipe sniffer attachment so I can stick it on any car quick.

Haha... Yes, in your case I would have done the same thing. See, reason for everything! Not sure what I like better... that you swap or that you have 3 cars to swap it for?! Nice!!!
