2008 E63 opinion
Hi all,
I've been lookin at an 08' E63 with 53k miles on the clock, dealer wants 28k for it.
Drove it once, first time driving an AMG so obviously I loved it. I needed some opinions though...the car has been in a very minor accident, I pulled the police report and the damage to the Benz was only $200, so I'm guessing paint or a dent was repaired. How bad would this affect me eventually selling/trading in the car? I mean it was very minor, but it will show on the carfax.
Second, the fuel tank has been replaced 3 times, along with the rear seats being replaced once, I know this all has been settled by daimler so I'm not worried about it, plus all of the replacements happened over 20k miles ago.
Third, (sorry haven't researched this one much) when does the airmatic go out on these cars? I'm assuming its pretty pricey, but I will have an aftermarket warranty.
If anyone has other wisdom on these W211 E63s they would like to share, please feel free to chime in!
Thanks!
Seth
Edit: I'm coming from a 2012 Infiniti G37x, so this is a pretty big upgrade - in terms of everything

I am fairly new to the W211 and MB world but I have done a lot of reading on them. Airmatic is a crap shoot. I feel that having the car sit too long is worse than high miles. I have a front driver side on the way out and at least one rear needs to be replaced. My car is an 07 with only 35k miles. Arnott's are the best replacement IMO.
I wouldn't worry about the fuel tank being replaced 3 times so long as it's fixed now. My car had the headliner replaced twice by the PO.
As far as the accident, so long as it shows the $200 repair, I wouldn't worry much about it.
Biggest potential issue with these cars is the head bolt failure. M156 had this problem until late 09 IIRC. But with an aftermarket warranty, I wouldn't worry. The transmissions have been known to have issues as well. Most of what I read was the hard down shift from 2nd to 1st. My car had that issue but the PO had it fixed under warranty in 13. They did a lot of work to fix it.
The pano roof motors can go out and are kind of a pain.
So far I absolutely love my car. It's definitely the nicest car I have ever owned. However, I would absolutely suggest anyone who buys one should also get an aftermarket warranty because nothing on these cars are cheap to fix.

Oh right I forgot to include headbolts, My first search was actually for a C63 so I did plenty of research on the headbolt problems. Not really worried about that since I'll have an aftermarket warranty.
Thanks for your input! I'll definitely keep the tranny issues in mind when I test drive again today.

Just my $.02. The mod bug was the reason I stayed away from the E55. I knew if I had one, I would mod it. I bought the MB to be a DD. Not to mention aftermarket mods are the best way to have a warranty claim denied.

if you have an aftermarket warranty that covers all that you have nothing to worry about. a $200 dollar fender bender is nothing.
if you don't have an aftermarket warranty expect to spend 1-5k a year in repair/maintenance for the life of the car.

Thanks for the opinions guys,
@Wesmman1, yeah I knew from the get go that it was overpriced, I tried working with them on numbers but they didn't want to negotiate. Oh well!
Thanks all
There is an E55 in my area but it has 160k miles, so I'll probably just go test drive it to see what its like!

Test drove the E55 for kicks...I think something was wrong with it. It had 160k miles, 6 owners, and had been in a wreck; so, I knew I wasn't going to buy it. But, it wasn't torquey at all, must've had issues.

Just for reference, I just bought my 07 E63 black on black. 2 owner with tons of records and sticker price of $93k. No accidents and CPO car up until 2013. 34k miles. I paid just under $30k. And added a $4k 3 year, 54k mile warranty.
