'99 and '05 E55 AMG
If money is an important consideration, I suggest a 1999 E55.
If money is not an important consideration, a 2005 or 2006 E55 on which the maintenance was religiously performed.

There are several good one's on this forum including a 2006 white/pano (ultra rare) modified and fully serviced, and flawless with 90Kish miles, a 10 second 2003 for $18,500, a 2004 Weistec, and everything in between.
There is a 2003 white/pano with red inserts with just under 12K miles for $29K on Autotrader...
If I had the garage space I would buy it in a heartbeat and let it sit for 25 years. It has major upside in the collector car market. Magical car in many ways due to the low miles and without question the 2003 E55's launched the "Super-Sedan" Era.

I would tend to agree with 05+, but there is a split in 05 also. Early 05s have older armrests and 160 MPH Speedometer and possibly other stuff associated with '04 models. For stuff like burnouts, just swap in an earlier TCU for $150 or so.
It's a balance though, later models tend to have less wear, fewer miles etc .. but also have fewer options available (from what I have read). It really depends on what you want.
