Mounted new wheel set but have problems ...need help urgent.-20160422_171738_zpsj5lun9fr.jpg

so just mounted these wheels today. im running 1 size taller tires all around. in the front Ive got 245/35/20 and on the test drive I noticed a weird sound.

after inspecting for a while I notice the passenger side tire is juuusssttt touching the upper control arm bolt and only on the passenger side for some reason ...the driver side is very close as well but it does clear. isn't it super weird that it only does that on one side ?!?!?!??!?!?

what should I do ?? shave the bolt ?? cut it 1 or 2 mms ?? any help will be very appreciated.

Shaving the bolt would help but you still have to account for suspension flex that would bring it back into contact. I'd throw a small space on there if possible.

Can't tell by the pic but if there is enough room from top of tire and fender lip, I'd also suggest a small wheel spacer (should do this on both wheels).

What ever you do, do it well. Tires expand a little at speed. Maybe put the nut on with red locktite, then cut the shank a little at a time so it doesn't heat up. Those ball joints are only about 50 bucks if you don't like the results and want to try again.

I don't know why my posts are automatically making useless links out of my words. Is that MB world or is my computer screwed up?

Dchl- the top of tire is rubbing the bottom of the upper ball joint threads, right?

I've run those similar sized tires on both my E and CLS for years. 255/35/20 Toyo and Michelin must be a little smaller O.D. than the tires you're running because they both cleared with no problem, with probably 4-5mm room to spare. However I still filed down the protruding threads from the bolts since there was enough material there below the nut to be of concern to me. It only took a few seconds per side with a 50 grit 3M Rolok disc.

Also- repack your front wheel bearings. Getting the slack out of them that accumulates with mileage could get the top of the wheel back perpendicular to the spindle where it belongs.

shave it or you might be able to spacer the wheel till the bolt lines up in the tire channel

is that n 8.5 up front?

as of right now ive 3mm generic spacers up front just to give the caliper more clearance. but I still get that rub up top. nothing is ever easy comes to modding lol ..

I do have 12mm h&r for the front but I don't have ball seat lugs for them .. might source it and see if that will clear it.

still looking for a 10mm or 12mm for the rear.

thanks boys

your tire is to tall, grind the bolt down so its flush with the nut, thats what i did. the tire will probably still rub at higher speeds.

what wheel size/offset are you running? I had 235/35/20 on the front of my first w211 and there was plenty of clearance.

so I got it all sorted out today at the shop.

im running now running 12mm all around and I also shaved the upper control arm nut.

bad news is that when I was testing out the fitment and playing with ride height the front tire rubbed on my fender when I hit a DIP in the lot. it fked it up ... pissed about that ..now ive to bend it back and work some magic...

Im sure it can be pushed out 3mm more (flush flush look) but Im not able to due to the tire height ....so ya ... I don't like it that much .... I like my proper stances. ..

ANYWAY !! ill NOT ever run a taller size again.... not my thing....way too much bs... hell with the ride ... just buy some nice tires I remember when I had 285 25 20 before it still rides amamzing...

thank you for all your help !!!! after I clean up everything ill post it in the wheel thread.

again, really appreciate all your help bros !

I'm running the "tall" up front and I must say that extra sidewall saved me big time. Im pretty good at dodging potholes but both on the right side hit once. I only got the rear wheel fixed.
