Bad Smell when accelerating
Hey guys, I purchased a 2003 E55 AMG. Ever since I've owned the vehicle for 8 months I've been getting a bad smell when accelerating hard. It's a very hard smell to explain however the entire interior of the vehicle smells of it including the trunk. I also get headaches from this smell while driving. I had an exhaust leak on the cat and had it repaired.
The smell is like an after combustion, almost rubber type/burning smell. Similar to a chemical. No rotten egg smell unless you literally Inhale the tail pipes a mechanic told me. Most prominent when I tilt the sunroof to let in some air. The smell then rushes through the cabin. I had also changed the cabin filter. I looked for the charcoal cabin filter but have no clue where to find it. However this still wouldn't explain the smell.
I am told it can possibly be the manifold or catalyst converters. There are only primaries, no secondaries cats. At one point the previous owner had O2s not being read or something of that sort and I was getting a lot of black smoke until this was turned back on by star.
Any suggestions would help, if not resolved I will have to sell the car. These headaches are a bit much at this point.

So you're running a straight pipe to the mufflers? Is it an egg smell that you get or how would you describe it? Mine is almost burnt rubberish...

Mine does not smell like a decatted car. It's a very heavy smell, similar to burnt rubber. My guess is the bypass valve opening up and letting the SC smell to exit the engine area.
