I call BS. Considering it was smacked up beforehand. There was other underliying issue before your SC was added.

UPDATE:

So fast forward to now, apparently the guy got a third supercharger and his car is working. I agreed to a refund but I asked him to give me both bad superchargers. He says he doesn't have the first bad one as he swapped it for an intercooler with a guy who wanted to build a good one out of 2.....

OK, I know you guys said it was suspicious but now I'm really suspicious. I agreed to the refund out of the kindness of my heart, period, as I gave them a chance to inspect it fully before buying. If they needed to install before buying, they should have asked me to bring it when they were going to install and have me watch.

So what do you guys think? I was willing to refund him as long as I had both as proof nothing was swapped and nothing fishy was going on but now this..??!

I think you have answered your own question. Time to hit the ignore button on this guy and get on with your life.

If you can't positively identify your original part, then you may receive his original defective part in return. It is so unlikely that your part would pass inspection and then immediately fail (unless an installation mishap occurred). Part was sold without warranty. I think you can say sorry but no refund. Used parts always carry some risk, even if everyone involved acted honestly I still don't see you obligated to refund. My two cents.

SC is a simple device.....when the "mechanic" spun the pulley and checked it you would hear or feel a bad bearing and these bearings are sealed and dont just "seize up" so he's full of crap. The only way yours would seize would be crap IN the SC causing the rotors to lock up which is his fault or failing to refill the CORRECT oil (Jet oil) before startup......walk away, its a scam.

Your supercharger was the "third one" that acted right. Move on and ignore the guy.

The supercharger clutch engages during start up according to WIS.

That is correct, every SC enganges during start-up for the reason to remove any ice that might build-up during colder days. WIS clearly states this.

Its very very unlikely the SC locks-up all of a sudden. It might sucked-in something as small as a little piece of plastic, which is enough to ruin it. In the early M113K days, mechanics broke-off the lower plastic thing that holds in place the air-filter box/Y-Pipe on the Throttle-body which often caused a total engine failure, by killing SC and then parts of it got sucked-in by the engine itself, so Mercedes issued a warning to all workshops and the manuals. Its easy to kill engines when you are lazy or dont know what your doing.
I woudl request pictures/Videos of your unit, showing you the damage. I would not give them back the money just like that, even if the guy is supposedly a nice person and you might have a bad heart/mind (and i say this as a true christian believer).
Try to find out the truth before refunding them.
