$800 for all new control arms, installed. ??

Hi, a client's husband told me he had a mobile mechanic business with Mercedes techs he hired from dealerships. This client has referred us a lot of business, so I gave back and agreed to hire his company to get rid of the annoying knock I hear when I go over bumps.

They replaced all four control arms on the front wheels. $800 total. Good deal? Just curious if anyone knows what this would normally cost.

Thanks.

Holy F****! Don't trust a mobile repair van. These guys dropped my front end so the wheels hit the fenders when they test drove it, the wheels are visibly out of alignment, and they called me and said everything was A-OK, might just need an alignment.

Parts, you're looking at $100-$150 per arm plus install.....doesnt sound too bad compared to what a dealer would hit you with.

anyone else chime in?

I paid $388 for two thrust and two control arms for my E55. Camber should be at -1.4 degrees +/- 0.3 degrees. You'll need to set the toe on the front wheels.

It's the rear control arms that will cost you...>$500 for a pair.

Definitely going to need an alignment after that. Also, all the arms are supposed to be tightened on the subframe side when the wheels are loaded (carrying the weight off the car) so highly doubt they did that.

Thank you for the replies. Clearly it needs an alignment (though they didn't tell me that would be necessary), but the front is dropped and the fender lips are bent out where the tires hit the fender.

Would tightening the arms on the subframe side after loading have kept the ride height the same as before?

Putting these Q's in another thread...
