Also take off slowly with a rag to release any pressure

Some cars don't need it.

how do you get the air out that has been introduced into the closed system after replacing the accumulator without using a Star? (just looking forward to the inevitable...)

Not all cars will need to be bled. Does having star help, yes. To change the accumulator you don't need star.

Thank you Hulk!! That was extremely helpful, I just replaced mine and did it without STAR. I took some pictures so I'll try to write up a quick DIY. But it's honestly just unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one, just as stated. Whoever attempts this don't freak out when the brake fluid sprays out on the towels you put around the accumulator to catch the fluid. Now my message has not gone away just yet so I'm going to borrow a scanner that can access the SBC system to try and clear it.
