HELP!!! Big oil leak 2008 e63

Ok here's the story I was driving and hit it to pass up a few cars. When I look back I see a lot of smoke a lot I stop and inspect my car and that's when I see oil pouring out and I check the dipstick and I have very little oil remaining so I have the car towed home and decide to look at and find the leak right at the connection of the tranny and out of a rubber black cover any ideas what this is?

That area would suggest that your rear main seal is leaking. Is there any oil coming from the valve cover/cylinder head area?

Check the rear of the cyl heads, it's possible you blew out a cam cap on the back of the head. It's unlikely that a rear main failed dramatically like that with no other cause.

Grab a mirror and flashlight and look down the back of the engine for leaks from the top.

I had similar symptoms earlier this summer. Turned out to be a casting plug at the back of the block. The block is cast and the plug was aluminum or something like that...basically, different expansion rates for different metals. There was an updated plug put out by Mercedes. A penny part. Cost was labor in dropping the transmission. I think the exhaust had to come down too. i replaced the rear main seal while I was in there. If your leak is the plug, replace that seal too. If your leak is the seal, replace that plug too. You should be golden after, either way. Someone considering headers, now would be the time to save the money on the install. Good luck.
