"i don't think it to be to far fetched an idea to think that the new M5 will have more of a sporty nature than the current E55. it seems that BMW leans more toward the sport side of the automotive spectrum while Mercedes leans more towards high performance touring. i'm sure that the words i'm using might not exactly explain the differences between the two brands precisely but i think most of you guys know what i mean. in the end all of us benefit from the two uber auto manufacturers going head to head."
M5 more sporty: Yes! New M5 quicker than E55 based on the torque, weight, and hp: No!

Well, then BMW must be the biggest liar then. So the whole press release is a lie too. 0-125 in 13 second (that is about 2 second faster than E55) is a lie. Originally posted by BlownV8

I am amazed by my simple comment of "why is it so difficult to believe that M5 would outgun E55" would create such a stir.
EVen IF M5 will be faster then E55 there's always a Renntech upgrade
+ who cares if it is, BMW will never be comfy as BENZ! PLus they are not trying to i guess.
Anyway i think this Topic should be closed at this point.
Bottom line - As almost all of us here agreed, they are Two different cars with two different purposes.
I'm sorry for posting such a flamable topic:p But it was fun anyway.

Yeah, I'm sure that the two thousand or so you'd save customizing the pedals on a GT3 would make the M5 faster around a track than the GT3!
At this rate, I'm going to have to wear my wading boots, 'cause it sure is gettin' deep in here!

You be sure to come back and let us know when you post a sub-8 minute lap around the 'ring in your new M5 with $2K in upgrades!!

2nd. Yes, I am fully aware that customs pedals, wheel adjustments, custom seats can be had. But there is cost involved which I think it's more useful to spend somewhere else. With the money I am going to spend on custom interiors, I probably would be able to make a faster M5.
What makes you so sure that I did not look into that.

I am laughing my a$$ off.
You claimed that the reason you wouldn't simply spend a few thousand dollars getting custom pedal fitment and/or seats on a car better-suited for track usage is that for the cost of the mods, you could "make a faster M5".
Given that the topic was TRACK usage, one assumes that your ambiguous sentence referred to the cars to which I was referring, i.e. that the M5 could be made faster around a track than these cars, for a few thousand dollars.
Which is, quite frankly, the most ridiculous statement I've seen you make thus far. So, I posted a link to the test of the GT3 on the Nuerbergring, where it ran 7'54" in the hands of Horst Von Saurma.
I seriously doubt that Mr. Von Saurma will, when he inevitably tests the M5 for Auto Motor und Sport at the Nuerburgring, be turning a sub-eight-minute lap in the M5, because it's too bloody heavy.
Which proves the point: it is NOT a "superior track car". Unless by "superior" you mean "a car which has the most interior room", in which case you might consider a school bus since you don't seem to care about lap times.
