Whining noise from 08' e63. Please help
Hello to everyone again! So I recently bought an 08 e63. Had the 55 before this one. I love the the whip, but to be honest, I think I'd rather have an e55 for the instant power and torque with an e63 front bumper conversion. All that aside. I'm hearing a Whining noise when I'm driving. At first I thought it was power steering. Checked fluid, all good. Then noticed that it makes that whining noise even when car is staring still and gets louder as I start driving and in higher pitch the faster I go until about 60mph, when I think it's already too high pitch to hear. Anyone know what's going on?
Thanks
Thanks
check the idler pulleys on the front serpentine drive belt on engine
replace the plastic units with Wiestec
small pulleys are good for approx. 40 - 60k miles then say goodbye to reliability
when they burn out the serp falls off and then the fun begins trying to steer the beast and overheating is evident

A simple test is remove the serpentine belt and spin the idler pulley with your finger, if it spins for a long time then the bearing has free play and should be considered for replacement. You may also feel or see some vertical movement.
The disadvantage of these plastic idlers is that they work like forever ( hopefully) but when they fail the bearing overheats and melts the plastic outer contact area , the serpentine belt falls off at which time you lose your power steering, alternator and water pump as well as the AC. These cars do not like to be steered in manual and you are in immediate WTF when the belt falls off as well as now being stranded on the side of the road. Large motor no cooling from water pump 5 minutes running and you are cooking the motor from overtemp.
Replaced both cars with Wiestec CNC Aluminum idlers 4 or 5 in the set which also have bearings that you can replace, unlike the MB setup.
Good luck
