ESP inoperable...hate this car
So yesterday while driving my 07 E63 with 118,000 glorious miles the "ESP inoperable" message popped up, shortly thereafter the "Car too low, stop car immediately" message popped up.. I stopped car was at normal height. Shut off and restarted my car.. only the ESP message remains, after doing some research it appears that this is a common issue and majority of the time turns out to be the steering column angle sensor... has anyone had this issue recently? Input?... the ESP module is $1800..hate this car.. so spending anywhere near that makes me nauseous, really hoping it's the angle sensor...
Thanks in advance.

I got the esp inop message, got the car scanned on a star setup, and it told me to go buy a 130 buck steering angle sensor that I installed in my garage in an bour with a little help from google and the right length t27 torx wrench.

my guess is Steering Angle Sensor also. only other thing I have seen go that caused ESP issues was the YAW sensor in my wife's SLK. this was after the MB dealer originally diagnosed the SAS as the issue.

Getting it scanned will tell you if it's the steering angle sensor. Most threads have that as the problem, never really heard the module being bad in those threads. There's a couple of youtube videos on how to replace it and they're about $130 mail order. It's usually either a wheel sensor, steering angle sensor or the yaw sensor. What's scanning going to cost you? I bought an X431 Launch Easy Diag Plus for $30 last year. I think the lowest price now is about $60 on ebay and aliexpress. It scans specific MB codes and when mine came on, it told me the steering angle sensor was bad.

UPDATE: I had the car scanned, it ended up being a faulty brake light sensor.. $21 part.. took about 10min to replace. I was told this a another very common sensor failure.

If you are interested, PM me for contact info on a couple local indy techs that know what they're doing and won't screw you over, one's in Lynden and the other is just up the road in Stanwood...I would not have bought my car without the Lynden resource.
