I've been lurking here for years, but just registered as I'm just about to buy an 05 E55. I won't be daily driving it, it will probably see about 50% of my daily driving duties.
I'm interested to know how many enthusiasts here are using these cars as daily drivers, or just as weekend cars?
Ben.
i daily drive a minimum 100 miles a day. Purchased the car 13 months ago with 97k just turned past 120k
There are different colors, I think this black one might be yours, email them your vin to make sure before buying. About $177 each. The buttons on the handle typically go bad. If it doesn't lock or open, then it's possible it's an antenna or something else, but if one works and the other doesn't, it's probably the handle.
Thanks for the link. Both unlock and lock functions/buttons do not work on the doors, except for the passenger rear which works perfect. I'll get around to fixing it one day.

Yeah, you could just replace the driver's side and see what happens. That's the side I use the most anyway. I figure if mine ever go again, that's the only one I'm replacing. The DIY shouldn't take that long.
Purchased mine from the 2nd owner (who had it for only 2 months) in July of 2014 with 80,000mi. As of this morning, comfortably at 121,500mi, with a daily round-trip commute of 110mi in the lovely state of New Jersey.
I've been diligent with my maintenance before going crazy with mods. It is a fantastic daily driver, an even better highway cruiser. Gas mileage aside, I thought I would miss my manual, Stage 3 B5 S4, but I really don't. My only regret is not going harder for an estate, baby #1 is on the way and the lack of folding rear seats is my only qualm. Time for a roof-rack and box.
Obligatory:
Bet the boost works well with all that ICE!!!! (sorry for the hi-jack)
I'm in Canada and drive my 05 E55 daily.. expensive car to maintain off warranty but i love it.. i'm at 195,000 km and she still runs great. I wont say i haven't spent some money on it though. watch for problems with the AIRmatic shocks and the fuel pump/sending units. mine also have the notorious SC chirp, but i'm told they all have it.
I DD mine about 50% of the time. I usually don't drive it to work (1.3 miles from my house) but almost always take it when I'm going somewhere more than a few miles away and don't need the extra space of my SUV.

What kind of tires do you have on your E55? I'm from Chicago and just picked up a pair of michelin pilot sport a/s3 plus to put on the E55. I hear these car's airmatic suspension has issues rising when it gets super cold outside. I know you get a decent amount of snow where you live. I just picked up an 04 E55 with 118K on the clock and I love it!! Replaced the starter, motor mounts, lower control arms, all fluids, plugs & filters. heater valve, wheel alignment and new tires.

Any major problems that you have ran into? I just bought an 04 E55 last month with 118k miles on it and replaced the motor mounts, lower control arms, ball joints, spark plugs, filters, all the fluids. new michelin pilot sport a/s3 plus tires .

Just replaced the Continetal DWS' that were 2 years old with the newer DWS 06 line. It started with replacing 2 front tires and then realizing that all 4 should get swapped. I wanted to pick up some Pilot Sport A/S's but it was too late. I really can't complain about the DWS'. Dealing with terrible roads on a daily basis will leave you susceptible to potholes which wreaks havoc on the tires and suspension. Bubbles are common place, no matter how careful I am at avoiding hazards. I'd say you are going down the right path and addressing all the maintenance items before they start to pile on.
I don't understand.. If someone has it.. why he/she must drive something else??
If you have a car you love, you will have it longer if you drive other cars also. I do not drive my E55 in the rain or snow EVER. Not worth the risk. I have other stuff to drive. I drive cars till they are road kill
I will buy another one to enjoy but drive the old ones untill I give then away. My Expedition is 18 years old and is still filling in when needed. A running solid car is worth more than the 2k it can fetch
I bought my 2006 E55 fifteen months ago and have put 23k miles on it. Just drove over 800 miles this weekend on a trip. Maintenance and rear tires have been expensive, but I was paying for the sins of past owners and now feel the car is finally where it should be. New stereo, too.
What kind of stereo did you put in your e55? I have a cls55 and want to upgrade it with one of those android units.
Bought my '06 wagon two years ago and have driven it daily since, now at 101,000 miles and still going strong. In Colorado winters I run four Nokia snow tires and a feather foot. At 75-years old, I try to enjoy the car as much as possible while I still can!
I drive mine 70% of the time now. I actually prefer my 07 E550 as a daily driver. Just more comfortable and smoother. Once I do my motor mounts on the e550 it will become more of a daily over my e55.
