E55 digital speed readout incorrect

Hi,

I just picked up an '05 E55 w/ 54k on it and quite a few awesome mods done (185 crank pulley, heat exchanger, longtubes, intake tubes, quaife diff, etc). The PO was active on the forums and took extremely good care of this car. It is immaculate for an 05. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to purchase from him.

One thing I noticed is that the digital speed readout is inaccurate. At 80 it reads 50. I did some searching and while I did find posts on this, I wasn't able to locate a solution. I can live with it if need be, but would prefer to correct it.

So, has anyone else had this problem? Is it easily fixed, via STAR or some other method?

Change the odometer from km to mph.

Went through the setting multiple times. Everything is changed to MPH readouts, that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Yes, the analog speedometer works perfectly fine.

Have you spoken with the PO to inquire about the issue existing prior to sale? Maybe one of the mods changed the signal to the digital readout and he can tell you how to reverse what was done.

I did ask about it on the test drive, and he said he wasn't sure. It had been like that throughout his ownership, but it didn't bother him.

I do have STAR, so I'm hoping that there is somehow a function to alter how the digital and analog speedometers interact.

If the needle matched it I was going to say maybe it had different rear end gears. This is just weird.

How does your car drive & handle with having a quaife diff? Do you think it's much better than the stock open diff it originally comes with? I'm on the fence of putting on a WaveTrac LSD on my 04 E55. It's like $1k for the WaveTrac LSD and another $1100-$1200 in labor/parts.

It does have a Quaife LSD - but I don't think that has an effect on anything. The analog speedo reads perfectly accurate. What it seems like is that somehow (even though everything is in MPH mode), the analog speedometer is sending a KPH signal to the digital speedometer.

Maybe I'll do some exploring in STAR...

I can't really speak for the Quaife over the stock - as I have only test driven cars during my search with the stock open diff and not owned one. I can say that the car hooks really well with the LSD, even on "eh" tires. However, I know from my BMW days that the 135/335 guys that swapped over to an LSD noticed a HUGE difference in performance. Better traction, more controllable, etc.
