Comparing 2 e55's

Hey all,

I am in the market for a w211 e55 and I have come across 2 options so far. If you all know if any other e55’s for 15k ish or less let me know.

Option 1- 2005 e55- this one is on my radar because one its only about a hour from my place in Richmond. The mileage is great at 56k, however the big problem Is that the car has a rebuilt title. Was hit on passenger side and repaired.

Option 2 – 2006 E55- This one has 109 k on it and has a solid documentation history. The car was serviced at a local MB Dealership, but now is in Ga. Has rear main seal replace 4k ago and a new alternator and battery and other stuff. The car is fully loaded with parktronic ,adaptive cruise and all. Seems to have a carbon fiber rear diffuser and nitto 555rs on the rear so possibly modded at some point? The dealership says the car wont pass emissions not sure why. Not a issue for me because we don’t have emissions in Va.

I have read up on the w211 e55's as much as possible, which one would you all choose or keep looking?

Personally, I'd never buy a salvage car unless it was dirt cheap. Figure half the price of a comparable one with a clean title.

E63 AMG
I wouldn't buy a car with a rebuilt title. I also wouldn't buy a car that won't pass emissions for an unknown reason. I think there are better options out there, and I'd also keep in mind that these cars are extremely expensive it's probably worth buying one that doesn't have any stories unless you're comfortable taking on repairs yourself.

Thanks for your replies guys. I dont mind wrenching myself and have experience working on a multitude of cars. The salvage title one is definitely something i think i want to stay away from. I am still on the hunt as well.

I would try to find out why it won't pass emissions. It could be just that the previous owner removed the cats.
Of the two, I would go with Option #2, unless you could get the first one for like $5K or so.

If it matters to you, I would look for good paint and clean interior too. Expensive to rectify if not up to your standards.

Please do not buy option#1, you'll never know what issues may arise down the road. Besides, you may regret your decision in the future. Look around go to www.listingallcars.com to find an AMG near you. And before you buy get a PPI done on it.

2006 e55
I bought one just like the first one. 57k 2006 salvage title all the options i wanted, keyless go, pano roof, dynamic seats etc. I paid $9500 I bought it sight unseen (wont do that again especially salvage) This car was okay sight unseen but I have had other bad experiences. I had pictures and it was more or less as described. I figure a clear title similar car with 56k miles would be in the 17k range. It has a lot of minor exterior cosmetic issues and some deferred maintenance. So far I have fixed most of the little things with little money. The interior is mint and overall its a very nice low mile car. So my choice was low miles. In hindsight I should of bought Cutts car but my local smog guy scared me off.

All of these e55s are 11+ years old and all will have problems arise, even the really well maintained low miles ones.

I am happy with my purchase, I love the car its so quiet and smooth, easy to park, everybody thinks its a super expensive car lol. it is a 3rd car for me and I consider it my commuter car, my other daily would be an f250 turbo diesel. I live in a rural area so its hard to keep clean and I have other nice toy cars. the cosmetics would bug me if it was my only car and it was more my pride and joy lol. For me its my Kick A honda accord.
