Thoughts 05 E55
Hey guys , does this price sound of whack , very well dealer maintained e55 2005 105k . moderate options, front & rear bumpers repainted by mb at cpo sales. no mods 2 owner adult driven. minimal tlc.
I know a lot factors into the price but is 14-16k fair. one thing I noticed and didn't pull up much on a search. The rear trunk lid sits slightly higher on the gas door side, enough to see it in the body line (auto trunk).
Assuming the rubber twist stoppers might adjust it or similar. But wondering if this is common , no accidents btw. Thanks

If I were you, I would search ALL craigslist sites in a 3 state radius as well as the completed listings page on ebay, and come to the "is this price fair" conclusion yourself.
Is it the EXACT color and build you want? If yes, it might be worth spending a bit more.
Could you pass on this one and get any of a number of others on the market right now, and not feel bad? Give a reasonable offer, and let it stand.
This also helps to show the seller the comps you're judging your price off of. Not just pulling a number out of midair to see if you can get it cheaper than he's asking.
What about maintenance records? Have the Service Bulletins been taken care of? Tire wear normal? How long did he own it? Any outstanding issues.
Each E55 is a unique beast, and will command an individual price.
Saying that, the price seems like it's in the ballpark, but check around.

I sold my 05 E55 in May of 2015. Sole owner with 49K miles for 19K. Perfect condition. Your price quote given is a bit high. Great auto though. Shop around.

Anytime I see an ad, I just punch it into nadaguide. There's tons of ads in the for sale section, those that are priced above retail tend to stick around and those between rough and clean trade in sell although once in a while you see a car priced at rough trade in due to maybe one or two glitches that doesn't sell and gets traded in. So the only option nadaguide mentions is having navigation and retail is 15.5k. Average trade in is 11k and clean is 13k. You're more likely to get something in that range than retail. Sellers never seem to be happy with book value, but the book is the book, there's no shortages of others cars that people can buy for 16k.

Yeah its not really loaded with options, but it is the color combo I wanted . Did have a ppi done at an mb dealer . Found some leaks which he fixed at his indy.
Any and all the common issues have been done already , ie struts , rear main , upper/lower oil pans resealed. Long time owner bough cpo from an mb dealer 7 yrs or so ago .
Unfortunately they repainted front & rear bumpers as well as a fender due to a blemish , documented by mb.

Sounds reasonable to me, 105K it's not a collector car so why worry about the paint if it looks good? Good maintenance history, and good cosmetics are the two criteria I think are important. See it in person if possible. Good luck with the search.

I paid 14.5k out of door for mine with 95k with a plethora of issues (airmatic, valve covers, spark plugs, you name it, all the stuff that needs repairs I have to do it) so for a perfect running car with that mileage I'd say $16k is very fair. Go for it.

Yeah looks like you can get burried quickly in a 2-4k debt depending on what has/hasnt been done . Anyone else notice that issue with the auto trunks . The rear trunk lid sits slightly higher on the gas door side.
It can be pushed down flush , but then on the next opening it closes slightly higher again. Its just enough to see it in the body line. Figuring its a matter of adjusting if the rubber twists dont work.

I was immediately flooded with $4200 in repairs in just one visit, so check that the car has had the following done:
Belts
Supercharger tensioner
Flex discs
Differential bearing... or whatever it's called
Sparkplugs
Valve covers
and make sure that airmatic works well (bring a tape measure, raise it, lower it, raise it lower it, watch, then measure all wheels raised and lowered).

Appreciate the info macedon . So wondering how normal this is , whining(power steering pump like) on cold starts which clears out within 30-60secs is deemed normal from the oil pump .Now is an on and off whining now and then almost indentical to that noise , even when warm normal as well . I know these are noisy engines .

Yeah i hear ya on the couple grand aside . surely will need some things. Yeah anyone elses do it warm as well, on & off . Pump has a mind of its own . Wonder if oil weight makes a difference in the noise level . Sounds like 90% of them do it to some extent.

I think it might be more the oil level than anything.
As always these cars burn some amount. Mine was whining quite a bit in the morning then it kinda stopped as I'm getting closer to needing an oil change, I'm assuming the level dropped a bit.
That's the only thing that's changed in the mean time, some oil burned off, so I'm guessing it's dependable on that somehow. If the noise comes back when I change the oil then it will have to be the amount.
It will make a lot more sense when you own the car money won't hurt so much leaving your pocket. It's like having a really hot girlfriend who's also really good to you but has health problems from time to time. What are you gonna do...

Yeah picked another one up ended up getting a decent deal . Will be going through it within the next week or so . Quick question are the rear license plate screws 6mmx1.0 ? getting mixed sizes some say 5mm . Going to have to retap as someone used self tappers .

Well this is encouraging....I have a silver/black '06 with 90K miles, new tires, solid maintenance, many options (keyless go, pano roof, dynamic heated/cooled seats, etc.) and am considering taking $17 for it in trade...Maybe I should shoot higher?

Any ways, from the experience of my last month of shopping, if I was selling your car I would jump on that 17K. I would not expect any one to beat that.

The best examples within a 150 mile radius around me right now are an 04 with 100k miles for $17k and an 04 with 69k miles for $19.5k. I actually saw slightly better deals 6 months to a year ago before I bought my current car, but I passed on them mostly because I really wanted my current car (Chevy SS). Now that I'm more seriously in the market for a W211 E55, I'm seeing far less appealing examples at higher prices.
