How do you dyno a 211 E55?

I'm going to be using a dyno to get some baseline numbers on a couple 211 E55s. These will be posted on my YouTube channel as I am going to start covering my new 2003 E55 and some others.

I have used dynos in the past with my LS1 car that I tune. I also ways put it in 3rd (1:1) and can command that it stays in that gear.

With the E55 I won't have any tuning software connected. I know to put it in dyno mode and that 4th is 1:1.

When doing the run do I just get up to a speed in 4th where the trans wouldn't downshift? Is there another way to make sure it stays in that gear for the run?

Thanks
Alex

No experience here, but I think if you go "M" manual it will stay in what ever gear you choose.

I would place the car in dyno mode then do a pull in 3rd gear. Most of the pulls I have seen results from were done in 3rd. Possibly would be worth a call to Eurocharged-Atx and ask Adam what their standard protocol. If it is 4th I would love to hear about it!

I heard 4th gets the highest Hp and 3rd highest Torque. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Id imagine 1:1 would be the correct way to do it, so 4th.

I've had a couple of cars dyno'd (not e55's) and 4th gear or closest to 1:1 is how you do it.

4th is the 1 to 1 gear. It will have the highest numbers as it has the lowest parasitic losses. This is true only of inertia dynos like Superflow and Dynojet. Not sure on others.

Put it in manual mode and press the pedal all the way down to the first stop. Even in manual mode, of you press it further, it will downshift still.

I am getting ready to dyno as well. Found a local shop that rents the dyno for personal tuning. It is an older dyno max/Australia. Calibration unknown.
Eurocharged has set up a new shop in Winter Park Fl. I will likely go to them for a trusted and guided run.
I am tuning supercharger control as well.

Best run is from the lead foot but we have ESP.

Cheers, Garor
