Mercedes sells two different tools but you can definitely measure the oil level using the trans dipstick tool. On a warm engine that has been shut down at least 5 minutes the oil should measure 168mm on the tool. Bottom it out all the way down on the oil pan, remove, and then measure with a ruler or yardstick. Works great, no fuss.

Shadow5501 is correct. I used the trans dipstick before my oil change and it read @160mm after I bottomed it out, then measured the total oil dip length. Total length of the trans stick into the tube was 30.75" when it hit bottom.
Changed my oil and filter. Put in 9 quarts, started, check for leaks etc.. Then did a re-check and it was @166mm.
I found after some math you can use the trans level at the end if you only go in 26". Then it is a useful dipstick that reads full, down 1 quart at the middle and 2 quarts at the lower mark.
FWIW
