Ticking noise from hard acceleration
Hey guys, tonight I was testing the car as 90% of the time it's putting around in traffic and I noticed when getting on it about 50-75% throttle from a stop I can hear what sounds like a fast ticking noise from the engine compartment. Keep in mind this is in the middle of the night in complete quiet and I have ears like a dog.. at first I would think pinging and maybe it is but it didn't really sound marble like/metallic to me.. although maybe that's the sound proofing.. anyway I took it for a quick 100 mile jaunt down the freeway getting on it when it came to the big incline and overall it seems nicer but I was too tired to go back to the spot and try it again.. the plugs are brand new OEM along with the wires, cps, etc. does anyone have any ideas on what that could be? It's an 06 55k. I have a icarsoft 980 but never opened it.. also have a star xentry setup in the box still.. I can get to the 980 right away though. Does that data log by chance? Thanks guys!

Hey guys, maybe it was a bum tank of gas I only use 91 Chevron from one station, or the bottle of Techron concentrate in there, or from me blowing it out up the grapevine last night but I brought it back to "the spot" tonight where as kids we used to race and gave it a 50-75% pull and no sounds and it felt like it pulled harder too.. I think we need to make sure these engines don't putt around in traffic too much without opening them up from time to time to keep them happy!

I heard this after car purchase. Smooth as cat at the light rapped like a dog after a turnpike jaunt.
Replaced the lifters and all is well. Other clicks accompanied by a miss is plug wires most noted under hard acceleration.
Driving too much with poor lifters will damage the camshaft as well. Once the cam is worn a popping will be noted in the intake/exhaust.
Hopefully you find it before it gets that intense though. Keep us posted!!
Cheers, Gator

You can do a "sneaky ECU reset" on the W210 E55 that will wake the car back up. I always noticed a bit of a difference when I had mine after doing it.
The Grapevine is fun. I hauled some *** through there several months ago on a trip to LA and back. Easily the most fun part as I5 is soul sucking cruise control land for hundreds of miles.

Thanks for the info.. luckily it was only about a half throttle run and I only did it twice.. it seemed to clear up after that though.. I've heard pinging before though and it didn't sound metallic like.. almost sounded like noisy valves or an exhaust leak but it wasn't very loud.. I only heard it because it was night and dead quiet.. after hitting the freeway and clearing her out I was low on gas so I filled up and the next night I tried it and it was gone. If it was pinging though wouldn't the knock sensor stop it? Thanks again!
