Transmission in Limp Mode?
Hi i have a 1997 w210 E55. I have been experiencing several problems with my transmission. One is after several minutes of driving or around 30-45 mins, the transmission will shift to nuetral at times. I have to turn off the engine and remove the key for a few seconds and it will go back to normal running. Second problem is it seems to be going into limp mode, i can feel the transmission is only up to the second or third gear sometimes. can you suggest anything ? thank you

It's a hydraulic/mechanical fault; those faults can be cleared via key on/off. If it were an electrical fault, it would stay in limp mode until cleared by a diagnostic system.
Good info here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...ne-engine.html
The E55 was not offered in USA until 1999. Reportedly the M113 engine was offered in an E55 badged car in 1998 but US cars were labeled as 1999 models. Is yours an E55 equipped with the M113 engine or the Euro-spec E50 (offered in 1997) equipped with the M119 engine? Same transmission but I'm curious about the discrepancy.
PS. You posted in the W211 AMG sub-forum but it is more active here than the other sub-forum.
