Smile Looking into buying a 2007 E63 AMG with 135k mikes

Hi,

I'm in the market for a new car and was wondering if I could get some feedback about a 2007 E63 AMG that is listed on my local craigslist.

I've never owned a MB before and have always driver big diesel trucks. I'm very mechanically inclined and do all my own maintenance on my truck from rebuilding engines and transmission to simple brake jobs. However I must also state that I dont know anything about MB's and have no idea if they can be maintained by me or if some fancy computer is required that only the dealer/shop has.

I would like to know what you guys/gals think of this car and what i can expect in terms of maintenance. I ran the KBB for the car and it appears the seller asking price is in line with the blue book value.

Look forward to you feedback and thanks for the help.

Maintenance isn't too bad if you can DIY. Some parts, such as front brakes, are very expensive. The fancy computer can be needed for some stuff and is just very helpful to have. You can pick one up for under $1000.

Car free at the moment
First thing to do is decide if a 6.2 engine is for you. There are a couple of problems that, although rare, are expensive to repair. Mercedes designates the engine "m156". Suggest you google m156 problems and do some reading, particularly on head bolts.

Other typical problem areas to check out include the airmatic air suspension struts. At this mileage the car might need some suspension work - ball joints or bushings.

You may want to look into the E55 too!
