Oil time Yup, I'm going to try 10w60 and here's why
I have the M156 engine without the cam issues, thank goodness. Right now, ambient temps are peaking over 110F and morning temps are about 75F. If I stab the throttle after the engine is warmed up during hot temperatures, the oil temperatures quickly climb and remain around 115celcius.
I know you are all very hard on about 0w40 but I don't see the purpose of a 0 weight oil when the engine starts up at 75 degrees F.
I've read all of the oil threads, anybody else tried the Liqui Moly 10w60? Also, I am smelling slight smells of burnt oil when I stab the throttle and bring it back to the garage. I do not have any oil leaks, I keep checking the dipstick and it remains consistent. Any ideas on that? I'm hoping that with a very calm warmup cycle this oil will benefit me in the heat.

I personally run Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W-40 with LiquiMoly MoS2 with zero issues here. No oil burning and valve lifter noise either.
in my experience oil cooler fans don't kick on until you actually drive hard and go full throttle. when I've just had hard accelerated then came to a complete stop due to traffic, the fans did not come on and temps rise.

lol, these Liqui Moly guys are receiving a lot of compliments around the net, that one has to take the cake.
I've decided to stick to my guns, not that I want to be cheap, I can get 7L of the Moly for 75 bucks, as of right now I will have to buy 10L of Motul and i'm way too curious about this company as it is.
If its anything short of excellent I will try Motul.
Do you know if they add MO2 into their synthetic oil formulations?
I will definitely report back about how this goes.

Mobil1 makes a 10w60 if you want to stay in the Mobil family.
I ran it in a higher mile Maserati that would get lifter tick when the ambient temps were 100+. It was sometimes slower to crank when cold, but may have just been the terrible charging system and/or a parasitic draw. I’d still be running it if I had the car!

Wow, all I can say is wow. Valve tick, gone. Oil smells, gone. Stabil oil temps, yes! 0w40 sucks!
Upon inspection there were no leaks at all. Yay!

You're going to run hotter with the thicker oil!!! It's going to have more resistance and create more heat. Flow is what removes heat from the engine and components. Not pressure.
If you want your engine to run cooler, as hard it is to believe.. drop the weight and go to 5w-30 and it will remove heat and run cooler.

Your are incorrect about that, my temps are 15c cooler now. In fact, I am laughing at your statement. You must be trolling..5w30..lol.

Your laughing at my statement?? You think I care about your ignorance? Resistance creates heat!
Trying to help... don't appreciate the insult! Been on here for awhile, not trolling. Get your facts straight instead of attackinge me on this board. Not gonna get into a pissing match with you about this. We don't do that on here.

Have you ever considered running AmsOil products?
I use the 5w-40 European Formula in most of my cars. It even has the MB-Approval 229.51 for oils to be used in MB cars.
Keep us posted as to what you end up using and how you like it!

The reason you smell oil when you stab the throttle unloaded is you manage to suck in a high% of oil sitting in the intake manifold. To solve this, get a catch can.

Amsoil is garbage. It may protect but it doesn't make power like other oils do while protecting.
A few guys posted that the W211 M156 does not need an oil catch can. They even posted pictures of their spotless intake manifold and I take ports.

Well, you've been offered some options by people in-the-know and slammed the door on all of them.
Why ask a question if you're not willing to listen to suggestions?

As a guy who changed his own intake manifold gaskets, and poured a bunch of oil out of the intake, I don't buy it unless it is a design improvement on newer engines.

How's did the 10W-60 work out for you? Are you still using that now? My ambient doesn't go lower much than 60 during the winter...may be alright to use during the summer time when ambient is over 100F
