Hi! New member, Transmission issue? Indy shop scam?
Hi guys, I recently purchased an E55 AMG w211 2003. But I've been running into problems for quite sometime now
To bring everyone up to speed:
1) car NEEDED a transmission service which ended up exposing a lot of metal caught in the filter (limp mode) (fixed)
2) ruptured transmission line (replaced asap) (fixed)
car was working fine for about a week after the replaced line
3)!!!!Now after driving the car Semi-hard I heard a couple pops from the rear (loud burbles), and the car does not go into gear, I put the car in park, it stays in park but when I put the car in reverse or drive, no movement, car responds as if it were in neutral.
car has no leaks, car did not have any kind of rough up/down shifts, no high rev shifts
The shop that I've taken it to service TWO times previously have told me that there was a p2xxx code that is coming up
and that the whole entire transmission needs to be replaced/rebuilt which is either $7,xxx or $4,xxx.
after browsing the forums as a guest, concluding that not all Mercedes specialists are truly honest/thorough in inspection
so I was wondering what would be my options to solve the issue without having to drop a mass amount of money at one time: e.g. Torque converter, conductor plates, tranny speed selenoid
I truly appreciate the responses! Thank you!

Out Of Control!!
Sounds like a lot of stuff, but you went wrong when you went the cheap route and let a sheep header do the diagnostics. All MB transmission faults are 07xx. Your best bet is to find someone with the correct diagnostics to go over the car. Then you have a excellent starting point to fix the faults or back to the sheep herders.

My transmission was fully rebuilt to the equivalent of US$4000 at the dealership so that should be the maximum for that if it comes down to it. There are guys on the forum who specialise in mercedes transmissions who can do at least a good a job or better for less money. Get the correct codes with STAR. Also check the rear differential and axles if you heard a noise in the back.

When driving on the highway the car does some hard gear changes and later not automatically shift gear, it freezes maybe at Gear 3 or 2. At this point S or C modes does not change. Even manual downshift does not work too. I have to pull over at the side of the road and turn off the car for about 5secs and restart it. This has occurred at least 15 times in the last 6 months
Currently use ATF134 in it. Hv changed tranny filter n oil 3x in d last 6 months coz d lunatic that I got it from never changed it for a whole 120k miles. Oil was a disaster when I drained it off.
my location is not close to u but if u hv suggestions which can help me resolve it I 'll be grateful.
my icarsoft i980 did not see any issues with the tranny
May I have your suggestion please
thanks

Has it got the stock factory valeo radiator in it? If so, radiator fluid may have leaked into tmyiur trans oil and ruined your clutch packs.

You need a STAR scan. I have icarsoftMBii but only STAR can give you lock up times or some of the strange codes a bad conductor plate produces. That is your starting point.

The transmission is extremely finicky to changes in the transmission fluid level. Buy yourself a dipstick place the car in neutral (e-brake on) with the engine running and check the fluid level. if it is cold use the 25C mark on the dipstick tool, if it is warm (ie driving for 40 minutes it takes a while to warm up the tranny.) use the 80C mark. it should fall somewhere between the two lines. If it is low the transmission will go into limp mode.
