New E55 Owner and VMI Question
Hey Guys,
I just picked up a '04 E55 (Brilliant Silver, 85K miles) and I love it. When I bought the car it came with service records from the most recent owner #3, but nothing from owners #1 or #2. I visited my local MB dealer and politely asked if I could get a VMI report for my car, but they told me they cannot provide that information. I've read a couple of threads about how MB dealers won't release this information, but I don't really understand why they would withhold service history information from the public. I'm not trying to start another VMI thread, but instead I'd like to see if someone who has access to the MB system could run a VMI report for my car. I'm particularly interested in knowing if the fuel tank/pump has ever been replaced. I have an extended warranty notification letter regarding the fuel tank/pump, but the extended coverage expires next year. If you can help, please DM me and I can provide the VIN.
Thanks!

I would ask them if they could look up and tell you what has been serviced especially the fuel tank issue? Another good source of records could be the Carfax especially if the owners have brought the car to a reputable dealers including the Mercedes. I'd say run a Carfax and you'd be glad you spent those $20.
Good Luck, these are wonderful machines if taken care of

VMI reports generally have previous owner/customer info on them which is why they won't give them out.
If you don't have issues with the fuel tank leaking they probably won't replace it.

I'm in the same boat. I just recently purchased a 2002 E55 and found out the instrument cluster was replaced at 30K miles by a Mercedes Benz dealership. I found this out through the previous-previous owner who gave all of the maintenance history and official documentation from the dealership who performed the work at the time to the person who bought it off him. The odometor states 30K miles less than what the car currently has on it and the seller who sold to me knew this and has all of the official paperwork (the previous-previous owner confirmed this to me wholeheartedly) and didn't provide me anything of sort, not even the binder with all of the detailed maintenance history that he said he would provide.
However, he never disclosed this to me and now basically told me to go pound sand. The previous-previous owner, who is a huge AMG enthusiast, gave the only copies of this to the guy he sold it to. He thinks I should sue the previous owner for misrepresenting the vehicle as he had a legal obligation to disclose to me since he had knowledge (with documentation) of this when he bought the car.
I really need to get the service history for my car, but I get the same runaround from the Mercedes dealership about privacy laws and what not. Geez, I don't want anyone's personal information, just the service history.
Could anyone point me in the right direction here?

1)- ^ The previous-previous owner told you about giving the service records including the odometer documents to the previous owner and you have that in an email?
2)- Did you ask the P-P owner about telling the Previous owner about the odometer repair? Make sure it's in documentation?
3)- Do you have a correspondence with the previous owner asking about the odometer and the service history?
4)- How far do you all three live from each other?
Answer these questions and might be able to direct you in how to handle the previous owner.
