Helmut finally gets off the leash
Finally got to open the taps on "Helmut" (my W211 E55) on some mountain passes.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but after the first few corners I had the confidence to go at a pretty decent pace. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the car was to throw into a corner. The handling reminded me of my old heavily modified Ford Mondeo. I left traction control on and I think that was a good idea as i could feel the car wanting to spin up the rears as i got on the power out of the slow corners. TBH it wasn't that intrusive anyway. The thing is just so rapid between corners though, really responsive with no hint of lag. Only later on the final twisty run of the day where i was making a video did it finally suffer from a bit of heat soak and i felt the ECU pull back...
Can't wait to do it again. Just a shame it takes nearly 3 hours driving over boring flat country to get there...

Hey yeah it's not far from Wagga Wagga actually. I went for a drive to the state of Victoria in the Alpine and High Country regions. Went down to see a couple of mates racing in a Rally there.
Did about 300 miles on Friday and another 350 miles on Saturday. Was a ton of fun. We have some awesome Alpine roads here but it is a pity they are about 3 hours away from where i live otherwise i'd do them regularly.
Stumbled upon a Custom Rod/Street Machine show while i was passing through one of the small Alpine towns too. Some great cars on show.
Here are a few of the beauties on display:
