Just bought a 2005 E55

Hi all, I have today purchased a 2005 E55. I have been hankering after one ever since I purchased my 2004 E500, and then a 2004 320 CDi.
I traded the diesel in to purchase the E55, that could have been a bad move, but i ‘fell In love’ with the E500 from the moment I saw it. Have had a similar experience with the E55! Whereas the 320 CDi was bought as a daily drive, and whist the torque was great, the car was in Melanie black, which looked nice, but the car never gave me a ‘wow’ factor or feeling. Was more a utallitarian car.
Anyway, both the E500 and the E55 are painted in Alabaster white, a colour I think suits the W211 shape beautifully, but the difference between them is unbelievable.
Both are ex Japan imports, and the biggest problem is sorting a radio that picks up our frequencies, as Japan only goes to 90.0 and we are to 107, or somewhere around there.
I have been blown away with the E55 acceleration, and the aural note is sublime to my ears. A friend of mine has a Nissan R32 Godzilla Skyline, which he thought was fast, and he was astounded at the acceleration of the E55.
I intend to have this car as my ‘special’ car, and use the E500 as the daily driver.
Graeme

Congratulations, getting rid of the Japanese head unit was my first task when I got mine. Mad soundz have a lot of experience with this if you don't want to do it yourself. Did you get lucky and receive a service record? Otherwise might want to service a few things to be on the safe side.

Xtrons is an option if you want to go with an Android head unit. A bunch of people on here have them.

Looks good, did you pick it up from Auckland? I am in Hamilton too. Any mods planned?

Yes, got it from Eurosport in Penrose. I am the first Kiwi owner.
As far as mods go, I have not got any specifically planned, engine wise anyway. Though the more I read up about things, that may change.
My first changes will be to the stereo, Mad Soundz replaced the unit in my E500, and I am happy with the unit. It is a Pioneer unit and probably the same as what you have. Some friends in Auckland bought one of those Merc look-a-like stereo units for their E350, but could not figure out how to wire it in. Theirs is a jap spec also.No stereo shops will put in in either! I have it here with me and am going to see if I can figure it out.
I also have a job to do with the waterworks, as in the heater/airco. The heater valve has obviously died, as I am getting cold air at the front and hot in the rear. I have a valve ready to collect and pay for! The biggest issue for me will be access, as I have large hands, and if the YouTube video is anything to go by, access is limited.

Very nice congrats!

Do a front bumper conversion (google Gary Lo and email that man)

and enjoy the car

I have a UPD 84mm pulley brand new I can sell you for $300 if you are looking to do a simple mod (you will need a tune) that'll get you started in the mod game

Why?

I have a 180mm crank, bought the smaller pulley, realized I would need to do another $1000 of supporting mods, and gave up. But for you it will be POYFECT!

Enjoy the car and be safe

These E55 are stellar performers, even to this day. I love these cars.
