License-Plate Lights Stay On
2006 E55 AMG Wagon: When I turn off the headlights and ignition, the license-plate lights often stay on, even after the interior lights go out. Turning off the headlights before the ignition, or vice-versa, seem to make no difference. Opening and closing the tailgate sometimes gets the light to go out. Setting the headlight switch to "manual on" or "auto" makes no difference. If I fiddle with the above (re-start engine, turn headlights on and off, etc.), the lights eventually go out. Any idea what might be causing this, and a solution?

The wagon differs from the sedan in that all rear lighting goes through the rear SAM in the sedan, but in the wagon the license plate lights and rear fog lamps (?) go through the Rear Door Control Module (Component N111) while the stop lamps, turn signals and running lights go through the rear SAM. If possible, scan the Rear door control module for faults, inspect powers and grounds etc. MBZ has common issues for failures of wiring in lift gates and deck lids near the hinge area where the wiring flexes often or gets pinched. Usually ground wires. If everything checks out ok, you very well could have a failed or failing module. Good Luck.N111Rear door control module
