Well if you car is full at 8.5 qts, then far be it for me to tell you anything different. But it is so much fun, smoking guys who think that modern muscle car is fast.
Now that hellcat is another animal. I got smoked by one last year But I knew that when I lined up next to him. I just wanted to see how I would fair.

don't end up like the LS boys....adding of an additional quart to prevent engine blow up is normal...our engines use 9.2 quarts with cooler drain, no reason why not to put that much.

so...searching the internet...the C63 manual states 8.5 quarts but the E63 states 9.2? if thats so that makes sense why the new dipstick reads full at 8.5 quarts.

I see... I think you imply that the new updated dipstick was designed for C63 originally. Also, do you think that putting 1 quart less oil may cause damages in the long run? As we know too much liquid isn't good as you can't squeeze it and it will find its way out through gaskets. I am not sure what the consequences could be if I constantly pour 1 quart less.

Either way, having too little or too much oil isn't good for the engine. But having the right amount is perfect. If the manual says 9.2 qts, that is the amount of oil that should go in period. You if believe that your car has the wrong oil dipstick, visit your local Mercedes dealer to purchase the correct one. There was a technical bulletin released by Mercedes Benz, talking about a new revised dip stick for the W211 E63. My technician informed me about this last year, which he obtained and installed.

you won't harm your engine with only 8.5 quarts...the only downside is that you may have a low oil notification at some point prior to your next oil change as I did previously. Again...I was hooning my car quite a bit which most likely burned a lot of oil vapor through the PCV system.

i replaced my dipstick with the updated part number and it read full at 8.5 quarts with oil cooler drain. when i compared the two i recall them not exactly matching up marker to marker. don't recall which was which but pretty certain it didn't match up. for me i will continue filling with 9.2-9.5 quarts just to ensure I don't receive a low oil notification before my next service. I haven't noticed any negative effects with that much oil over the past 3-4 years of ownership.

i have a W211.

Thanks both! Last time I put 8.5 quarts. Will add 0.7 quarts later today. Don't want to see that "check oil level" message again like I did last time after hard pull.

Hello! Good discussions. I will be changing my oil for the first time on my 2009 E63; have had the car for just over a month. I ordered the Hengst oil filter from FCP, but it only came with the one large o-ring/gasket. They don't sell the other three smaller ones. How often do you all change the other three that are on the oil filter "stick"? FCP doesn't sell the other three, so I'm looking around and see other sites sell the oil filter kit which include all four O-rings, but now trying to find it. I came across the fleece filters which some have said to use, but cannot find the correct part number fleece filter (to include all four O-rings) for the car.

So, which oil filter do you all use; fleece or not? and how often do you change the other three o-rings on the stick? and where do you buy them?

thanks!

Congrats on your car! I have been using Hengst oil filter, and you are right, it comes with one ring. I didn't even know that we were supposed to have 3 rings. Mine is 2007, perhaps 2009 is different?

the other rings are on the stick; here's the how-to that shows them: https://mbworld.org/how-tos/a/merced...-filter-389881

but finding them separately is a task; and talking with FCP Euro they don't get changed out often; but not sure mine ever have so I might. For this change, I might just buy a new filter kit that includes them all, but would like to find a fleece one now since others have stated to use the fleece ones and not paper??

Yep, yours looks different. It looks like what I had in my 2013 E550. My filter housing doesn't have that long plastic coming through the filter. Mine looks like attached pictures I took from the internet. They must have changed it for 2009 models. Hope others could help you. By the way, as for the amount, you should put 9-9.5 quarts if you drain the oil cooler. Don't be confused by the updated dipstick which shows over max when you put 8 quarts in.

where do you buy from and which filter do you use? As mentioned the filters from FCPeuro only come with the one o-ring. Thanks for the feedback

I just had my oil changed several weeks ago, along with a new serpentine belt. The Hengst filter, that I used only came with one large o-ring.
And to be totally honest, I don't recall if the M156 required additional o-rings. Oh, and I didn't forget to drain the oil cooler

so changing the oil today, and found out the oil cooler drain hole threads are shredded. Overtightened from the previous owner/shop it seems. But the drain bolt will not fasten/stay in; just keeps turning. great

so need to find directions and order a new one fast and try installing it while i'm on xmas break.

If anyone can point me to good oil cooler replacement pics/directions/video I'd most greatly appreciate it!

Happy Holidays!!
