Possible transmission failure? Help

I just hit 100K and my tranny is making a wierd whining noise. The tranny started slipping as well and locks itself in whatever gear its in. When i restart the car. It seems to catch the gear and run fine for a second. But the whining noise will continue and it will start to slip and lock itself in a gear again. Im super frustrated at this point and even my indy mechanic is certain its the tranny and doesnt even want to look into it. I cant even check the fluid level and i feel at a complete loss as to what to do right now. If i really need a new tranny at this low of miles i might have to Leave MB forever, i just had the conductor plate done and a tranny service done 30K miles ago. Anyone run into this problem? And is it true if i need a new tranny i have to take it to the dealer for it to get coded? I love this car very much but after 7K spent on maintence i dont know if i can spend another 2-3K on a used tranny.

That sucks, don't feel too bad though, I'm at $9,800 over last 40k miles doing the work myself
Given you're in so deep whats another $2K especially for a transmission, you won't get jack **** for car without a working one.

Coding is only needed on E63 TCU/conductor plate replacement. I can't see are you in a E63 or 55? I know your pain. I rebuilt my CLK transmission at the dealer. Then I decided I couldn't stand the car after so many problems. And here I am...

Get a STAR read out. That can usually pin point what is happening. Along with fluid level and a basic external inspection you should have all the info you need.

I really didnt mind spending that 7K on the car. About 4K was spent on things that needed to be replaced with age, like motor mounts, oil cooller line, ic pump, radiator, conductor plate, double idler pulley, hoses and belts ect. And the other 3K was spent on the air suspension.. and i still wont complain about it becuase i knew what i was getting myself into. But i'd expect the transmission to at least last over 100K on a car that was once 100K itself. I cant wrap my head around it.

i have an e55, Good to know my indy mechanic who happens to be a mercedes specialist didnt even know that. The problem i am having right now is i cant even find someone to look at it. Everytime i say the tranny is slipping they try to send me to a transmission shop right away for a rebuild. If it needs to be rebuilt im throwing in a used tranny and tossing this junk. The car is my daily driver and coming from a lexus with 250k and not a single problem... This is just crazy!

This place is a joke.
Step 1) Check the fluid level. You'll need the MB dipstick tool to do this.

Step 2) If fluid level is correct- drop the pan and look for metal fragments.

The whining noise MAY be your front pump failing inside the transmission.

thanks for the reply. If it is the front pump, would i need to get it rebuilt? Also what is better a rebuilt transmission or used ?

A rebuilt transmission is always better. With a used one you have no idea what condition it is in and might just be another disaster waiting to happen.

thanks for the reply, i think i found a good transmission guy i can trust. Is it normal for a car to just start slipping? No prior signs of any tranny issues. I know alot of the times people will lose a gear and it just continues to get worse after that. I just took the car for a drive and got the noise and slipping

It has to start at some point. Usually the first occasions would be when you are hitting it hard. I was going up a hill at WOT 100mph when I first got limp mode and a code for impossible gear ratio. Then it was fine driving around town for a few weeks, then it occasionally started doing it then too until almost once per trip. Mine was worn clutch packs, you may have other issues.

Ouch sorry to read this, could you drop the trans pan and inspect the oil as preliminary check and evaluation?

Guy's don't understand that these transmissions will "compensate" for worn clutch's all the time.....until it gets to the point where it is past the point of no return.
Then problems will arise. They are easy to rebuild so an independent builder shouldn't hit yo to hard with price.

Would AAMCO be a good place to have a 722.9 transmission rebuilt?

i had the same problem a couple months ago. I just did a fluid change with a new filter. Then the problem happened again so i removed and inserted the filter and fluid then it was all good. Hopefully it's just the filter.
