Two clean rides! Great to have a MB tech in the family for the restore parts/work.

Yes I knew it was like this before buying the car. The pic is from when we did the PPI.
Most of the mess was VC gaskets leaking and some small amount from the rear main engine seal. We’ve taken care of both issues and did the trans service while the trans was out.

Left side front of engine. valve cover leaking

Rear main seal leaking a little. Common issue with these cars.

Some of my pics of pulling the trans and replacing the rear main seal plate were lost. Founds these on the web for parts reference.

We used all OE MB parts for this particular part of the job. Also decided to replace the bolts that hold the seal plate just for good measure.

Oil had to be drained to replace the rear main seal and plate. We weren’t sure if the oil level sensor was leaking but replaced the seal just to be safe.

I didn’t know if the engine and trans mounts had ever been replaced. The car only has 58,000 miles so I felt they might be the OG ones.
Knowing the car had ripped up the 1320 a few times...lol....we decided to replace them while we’re into the recon.

Had I known prior to buying the new MB mounts, about the billet mounts that drop the engine 10mm giving more header space to the floor. I would probably have bought those.

The mounts that come out were OG MB and didn’t look bad at all. They were a little short on height but that was a good thing that I didn’t realize......more on that later.

The trans mount looked a little low also. But nothing too bad.
I washed up the crossmember before installing the mount.

Tlambert, I visited my exhaust shop yesterday and my guy stuffed a couple rubber grommets in the spacing of the trans mount while I was prying the LTH down, it actually lower the tubes and literally got rid of 95% vibration. Going to get under there to eyeball what he did and if there’s room for another or larger grommet to lower LTH even more would be awesome! Will post photos

That’s interesting and good to know. Knowing what I know now about LTHs and race cats I believe the only real way to keep them from hitting the bottom of the car is the billet mounts. It needs 10mm to truly keep them from hitting.

The easiest way is to turn off the ESP and let it fry the tires.

Less grip, less hit.....hahahaha.

Ill post more on the remedy later.

Here’s that rubber grommet my exhaust guy used, two of em stuffed in the trans space hole. Above photo shows T mount with grommets. Try it, it rid of my vibration by 95%, if I can find a bigger gtommet, it might lower LTH even more. Grommet is larger than a quarter and about over half inch.

Thanks for the info! I’m going to drive it a bit and see if the engine settles any after the installing the new mounts.

how did the Lamin-x work for your headlights? I'm thinking of the same for mine instead of putting a protective coating on every few months.

My headlights have been sanded and clear coated with automotive clear. Nothing applied.

My sons car (aka) slowE...lol. I sanded them and polished them. It’s temporary until we install new lenses.

I’m pretty sure there are some threads on the Lamin-x as I’ve seen them before but don’t have a link to the thread.

i sanded and polished mine as well, and use a Chemical Guys coating on them, but it probably has to be applied every few months. Which isn’t a problem how often I wash the car, but I’d figure I might get the lamin-x as it’ll protect for a few years at least (if applied correctly) for that no fuss treatment

Since we were removing the trans to do the engine rear seal we decided to do a trans service. Changing out the conductor plate and connector. Also emptied the torque converter and replacing the trans filter.
Trans looked clean inside and the fluid didn’t smell bad.

Decided to go with MB parts for the service.
New conductor plate, connector, and filter.
Removed solenoids installed the new conductor plate and reinstalled everything back.

The connector didn’t look bad and wasn’t leaking. Just another precaution.

Time to install the pan and I find this.
We sprayed the outside of the trans with Vavoline brake cleaner and it was wet on the bottom as it sit on the floor. That’s some strong sh i t!
But after a blast job, some self etch primer, and some satin black we're back in business.

Wow that is a clean transmission and nice work on the pan. I found my pilot bush leaked fluid when I pulled it out. Definitely good insurance to do early. I noticed they changed the seal color so easy to spot an original.

New pan gasket, drain plug O ring, and lockout tab it’s ready to go back in.

Back together, fluid in and no leaks!

No wonder why your underbelly is spotless, bet you can pass a white glove inspection after your done! Very Nice!!!

btw, can you let us know which kind of trans oil you used and how many quarts you’ve added? I read some old threads on types and amounts but never got to the bottom line.

Thanks!

Lol. What till you see the exhaust. I had everything out but the headers and got a little crazy with the polish.

I dont remember the total amount of qts. and we dumped the converter while it was out. Probably around 10 qts.
I did find this that might help you out.
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...g-5-speed.html

We used MB ATF 134 fluid.

Not sure how many of you have seen the MB oil bottles?
Badass design with the raised star on the front and on the cap.

just picked up 9 qts of those high speed bottles for $7 each. Was concerned a bit that no where on bottle says synthetic; had to call back dealer parts rep to verify.
