Question E63 W211 exhaust question.

Hi guys! My friend has a E63 W211. He wants to modify stock exhaust.
Tell, how best to do this?
1. Cut first cats,
2. Cut 2nd cats,
3. Cut 2nd cats and resonator.

Which option sounds better?
If you have photos, show how you did it!
Thanks in advance!

I would interested in this too. There are other threads out there, but they all suggest fancy mods such as Xpipe or J pipe, etc. I'd just cut something and see how it sounds. I removed the mufflers in my W212 E550 and it sounded awesome. Wondering if something simple can be done in E63 without losing comfort.

I like how my E63 sounds with just a resonator delete. It's loud enough that way IMO.

Did you just straight piped where resonators were? Sorry, are resonators the ones right before the mufflers? There is one more “thing “ in the middle right after the main cats. And I am not sure which one is the secondary cat and which is resonator.

Do you have a video of your exhaust?

Resonator delete sounds pretty good. Before doing the tune, the OEM map was a little rougher and you could hear the overrun and snapping and popping on throttle lift after the resonator was cut out. I liked it. Got the ECU tune and the map is all smoothed out and to be honest, I miss the raunchiness of the OEM map. Oh well.

The resonator is just before the mufflers, where the two pipes come together. It’s rectangular in shape. You cut it out and install two pipes in its place.

I got my hands on some C63 mufflers and they are a bit louder and “nastier.” I’m happy with the resonator delete and C63 mufflers.

Good luck!

If cut off the second cats as shown in the picture with red lines? And to install straight pipes how at C63?
What is this middle tube used for?

With this setup, is there a noticeable drone in the cabin? I don’t want to sacrifice comfort at high way speed etc. Thanks!

That middle pipe balances the left and right exhaust pulses. Research H-Pipe and X-Pipe. I have all my cats, so I cannot comment on the results of removing the secondaries.

After removing the resonator there was no drone. Very very little increase in sound at normal throttle, if any at all, but when on the throttle it sounded 100% better.

I just had them straight piped. The resonators are before the mufflers. Primary cats > secondary cats > resonators > mufflers. I don't have any video of the car and it's got some other **** going on right now so I'm not taking any.

I've got a Eurocharged ECU tune on my car and it still makes the snapping and popping noises when getting off the throttle. I'm thinking about going with the Dime Racing rev match tune on the car though.
