Question about LSD
Hi! New member here. (and new AMG owner)
How in the world do you turn those contis to clouds? On shows like Motor Trend TV, etc. they smoke the rears like crazy. I've tried in manual, sport, modes and yea it spins the tires, but when it hits 6500 it shifts to second automatically. (stops spinning) A little embarrassing when your friends want to see what the beast will do. Second question is how do they step the rear end out so much in magazine pictures, shows?. I've tried with traction control off and it spins the inside tire only. I've heard that there is no LSD as standard. Do they go in to fast and jerk on the wheel
for massive oversteer, float the rear end, then snap the shot or what?

Turning ESP off seems to work fine for really obnoxious, white-smoky burnouts. With ESP off, the rear end of the car will also begin to kick out. The effect is obviously amplified on wet pavement.
I am doing this more frequently as a means to grind down my Contis in order to justify a puchase of the Michelin PS2s. I guess at heart I'm too cheap to throw away tires with lots of tread left on them.

I've been able to smoke the tires lightly and leave marks, but not the way I want. The problem I had, was the car shifting in second automatically. I know its probably programed that way to keep from bumping on the rev limiter. Hey personally, I think it sounds cool to hear the car on the rev limiter with the tires smoking. Think CART, ALMS coming out of the pits.

Great, now I have this mental image of you driving your E around in a cul-de-sac going as fast as you can with smoke coming out from all four wheels!
Be safe while you're at it.

I really do hate the Contis, and am hopeful that the PS2s help eliminate the drifting/tramlining that I constantly get on the highway. As such, I may have to bite the bullet and retire the Contis with lots of tread life left!
Doubt that I would save the Contis for cold weather, though.

the best thing that all of us can do is place a set of huge nails under each other's car. This way we can all blame others for mysterious deflation and need to have new tires.

Can't you get the parts and have them installed here? When I wanted the illuminated door sills I gave the part number to the dealer who ordered them direct from AMG. Four days later - viola.
Admittedly they're not a mechanical part......
