E55 Glycol contamination of Transmission due to faulty radiator.....no recall???
hey all, so i just fixed my transmission VIA a rebuild due to glycol transmission, researching online i see this is a major issue with the W211s and it is well known that the radiators in the early W211s were faulty and leaking glycol into the transmission. From reading on here it seems the SBC warranty has been extended to 25 years, the fuel tank leaking is also 25 years? yet i don't see anything regarding the the glycol contamination issue that the early w211s had.....anyone know if it may come about in the future? where do i report it to? Mercedes Benz USA/Canada were unhelpful

No man. Just replace the parts and carry on. It sucks but it's not a safety issue and will therefore never be a recall or get a warranty extension.

This place is a joke.
LOL Mercedes fought the NHTSA for YEARS because they didn't want to pay for the fuel tanks, even to the point of lying about the fact that fuel was entering the passenger compartment. You think they are going to pay for a failed radiator built 15 years ago???

fair enough i guess it wont happen haha...ive already replaced it but i thought the proper thing would be to have extended warranty since the radiator was proven to be faulty. also i was watching a youtube video where they were talking about this issue and also nissan vehicles were affected by this faulty radiator issue and nissan actually settled and extended the warranty on the radiator, its just mercedes that hasnt done anything yet.

This issue only affected early production 211's, and not every one of those cars either, so it really isn't a "major issue" as far as MB is concerned. I'm pretty sure the Nissan issue was widespread. Similar to the 6.3 MB engine class-action lawsuit that was dismissed by a judge- the court basically said that's why you have a factory warranty, and that warranty is for a specific time and mileage limit agreed to when you purchased the car. Safety related failures are, of course, looked at differently.

It affected a few different 2002 and 2003 models, not just w211. As pointed out not all cars had valeo radiators and not all of the valeo radiators failed. If you have a 2003 you should either replace the radiator if valeo or regularly check your trans fluid for contamination. Most of them probably would have failed transmissions by this age.
