Considering a 2007 e63 amg
I am considering a 2007 e63 amg that has 86000 km on it. Owned by one family who did all the regular maintenance and gas records from 40000 km when car proof became a thing. Does this make sense? What kind of life expectancy can I expect on this vehicle if it has been taken care of. It's at a dealership.

expect to be able to afford... if you can't afford these, don't let the low sale price of a M156 pre-headstud stun you.
head studs
cam buckets
cam shaft adjusters
front air struts
rear air bags
air compressor and filter

Head studs are what caused me to go after an older E55 with the M113 that is pretty bulletproof over the E63. Even if you're a DIY person it is quite a large job, and expensive. I've also heard some complaints about the 7 speed transmission although it's less of a concern than the heads since a failure can basically grenade the motor and total the car... The consensus from several friends were to spend the extra 5-10k for a post-head stud M156 (can't remember the exact year of the change, someone can maybe chime in) because there will be more features and a higher resale value if not keeping long term.

That being said, I love my E63. Love the looks, the interior, the transmission, and of course... the monster under the hood.

Exactly. People that don't own an M156 car seem to think that every single one of them is going to have the head bolt issue. That simply is not the case. The updated parts are not expensive either. It's the labor to do the job that costs a ton. My mechanic got me the updated head bolts for just a little over $100 his cost. Add in a valve cover gasket set and a cam tool (under $100 on Amazon, they didn't have one for the M156) and you're pretty much good to go.

For those of us using miles and USD that's 53,437 miles for $16,857. I would expect a well maintained example with 53,000 miles to be in the $20k-$25k range ($26k CAD - $32k CAD) which would be inline with the $8k CAD they are dropping of the price

That is quite a deal, something doesn't seem right.

this is fun, but this conversation has caused more than a few flame wars on this forum. glad to see some levity on this subject

Interesting... so you’re saying the E55 is faster than the E63 huh... would love to see where you found that. Not many people test both at the same time.

Its all in good fun.....I don’t take this serious here at all. Everyone has their preferences just like GM and Ford, Mercedes and BMW.

E55's are faster modified to modified. E63's are faster stock. don't know what the argument is here.
