The Story behind the AMG Badge

The story behind the AMG badge

This information was gathered from the AMG Private Lounge,

As many of you know, the AMG badge underwent a few changes in the past 50 years. But do you also know the story behind it?

In the early years, the badge only consisted of the three letters A M G:
A for Aufrecht, Hans-Werner (Founder)
M for Melcher, Erhard (Founder)
G for Großaspach (Birthplace of Aufrecht)

By 1990, the the stripes were added to the badge.

The new AMG badge with the stripes is made up of the initial AMG letters and the stripes of the former Mercedes "Sportline” emblem. Sportline was the “Sportprogram“ for Mercedes-Benz vehicles prior to 1990 when the cooperation with AMG started.

No problem Brother, which part of VA do you live? I'm in Annandale, a 15 minute drive from Alexandria.

AMG was taking a nickel from anyone in the late 80's. They even modified Mitsubishi's in Japan in the late 80's.

I was shocked to here this a few years ago, as I thought that I was well versed in all things AMG.

It's too bad the tuned cars didn't start out as VR4s. I used to really want a Galant VR4 when I was younger. It was a true sleeper.
