06 E55 battery dies with nothing left on...?
OK so something strange happened, my car the other day on my way to work, upon opening the door after parking I did not hear the constant beeping that's associated with "please don't forget your key". I didn't think anything of it and proceeded to go to work. Upon leaving the office everything was normal, I open the door the beeping happened I drove home, upon opening the door at home, everything was fine. So now the car has sat for 2 days in the garage, with nothing on (I even checked the headlights to make sure), and I couldn't even unlock the car. Its completely dead. I replaced the front auxiliary battery about 7 months ago with a brand new one and the rear battery was checked and I was told it was fine by auto zone. I now have it on a duralast 12V 2A charging the back. What is happening all of a sudden? Is there something being left on or something constantly trying to come on that's killing the battery? I didnt know if there was a known issue. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
thanks

Your car has 32 digital control modules connected via CANBUS. In all likelyhood, one of the modules has failed. To find it, the easiest way is to scan with STAR. Otherwise, with the car not running, you have to place an ammeter in series on the battery and begin pulling fuses until the amperage drops down to milliamps. At that point, you see which module(s) is/are on the circuit, put the car on STAR to verify, and replace the module. If you are feeling lucky, you can just replace the module(s) and trust that that will correct the problem. If it is a SAM, you will need to code the replacement to the car's features. If it is a theft-relevant part, the dealer will have to enable the replacement module to work with your car. If you have a really, really good digital multimeter, you can test by reading the voltage across the fuses. All above still applies.

Well I had the car scanned just Thursday actually cause my check engine light was on. When I took it to the local euro mechanic, the only code was the pesky P045 something for the Charcoal canister. Nothing else seemed to have come up.

Done anything with stereo, fuses, or realy any electronics recently? The CANBUS is the communication network the car uses to communicate with all of it's electronics, and it's very sensitive. If you unplugged something or cut a wire to something or pulled a fuse to something wired into the CANBUS network it's very possible that the cars computer tries to talk to what ever that is and fails to do so it prevents the cars electronics system from going into sleep mode, which would drain your battery. I've done this with fuse to the radio, plug on back of the cd changer, with something on the overhead consol, either the SOS button being depressed or the light sensor ribbon cable being disconnected I'm not sure exactly.

No I haven't messed with anything actually. My rear OEM sub cracked a few weeks ago but I haven't done anything about it, I'm looking for a factory replacement. The SOS dash screen has been coming on repeatedly for the past few weeks everyday. ..i'll click the button on the steering wheel to take it off and it seems like everytime I give it throttle hard it will come back on. Could that be my issue?

Ok thank you. Does anyone know how to turn off or disconnect the SOS thing that keeps popping on my dash? It literally comes on all the time and repeatedly throughout my drive to work. Drothgeb stated that this may be my issue...

Code it out with STAR and pull one fuse. Did it with a fellow a year ago but would have to search Internet to remember how. But it is possible. Might be time to call in Mackhack; he's the guru on these things.

Not going to work like that, you'll be in the same situation. He is saying you need to first disable it via star then pull a fuse.

I had this same freaky phenomena happen to my 07 E63, and I couldn't figure it out. Had Mercedes Roadside Service help my out twice. After the second incident, I removed that battery, took it in and was told that I had two dead cells. So I purchased a new battery, and that issue never returned. I was told by Mercedes parts dept., that this was the original battery. Not bad for an 11 year old battery. I thought about getting a battery from an auto-parts store like Autozone, or Advance Auto Parts as they were both very close, but then came to the realization that if this battery lasted 11 years, why buy something else, get yourself another OEM.

Yeah I'm starting to think maybe my battery is going and that's why the SOS notification is constantly coming on and so killing my battery. It stayed on the charge all night and this morning started up fine and also this afternoon just fine. Let's hope it starts tomorrow cause I'll be taking it to AutoZone to get it tested and I guess depending on the test, getting a new back battery.

I have had two voltage drain issues with my e55. the one that would set off the SOS warning had to do with the exterior trunk handle becoming stuck. I removed it cleaned it up & all is fine. The second was the passenger adjustable seat control. I removed the fuse and haven’t had a problem since.

Yeah im not sure on the trunk issue since mine has been working fine but now that you mention the seat thing, my passengers seat and drivers seat have been acting up. As im driving to work, sometimes my passengers seat (with no one sitting there) will start making this hissing noise, like it's decompressing or something. I know my dynamics don't work unfortunately as my bags have either popped or the lines to the bags have come off. I would like to fix them at some point but don't know how. Could this also be one of the issues?

I don’t know if that air compressor could be running when the car is off for some reason or not. It would be easy enough to disconnect it and find out. It’s located in front of the drivers side taillight inside the trunk. Well you’re back there, double check the handle for the trunk. Make sure it Completely returns without binding. I would also try removing the fuse for the seat adjustable memory.

Do you have keyless start? I had this same problem when I would start and shut the car with keyless, the battery would drain completely. I did the wire fix in the shift module and that seemed to work for a while but I guess my repair didn't hold and it happened again. Now I start the car with the key itself and don't have any issues. Not ideal but it works until I get it permanently resolved.
