Question for W210 E55 owners
I am considering one, but I would like to know from people who have had theirs for some time:
Do you feel like the car is outdated?? Would you consider/recommend buying a newer (lesser) model car instead, or are you still satisfied with it?? Thanks...

Outdated? Well.... some of my friends do say that..... but I'm still happy with it..... it's still the car I spoil the most....
And.... I can still beat 99.9% cars out there
Sure.... I'll consider buying a W211 one.... not now, though..... for a market like nowadays (including real estate) the money should be better spent for investment. Then... I can hope buying a W211 with the gains from investment

zoink, you beat me to it, well said. I would add: getting $30-$40K off MSRP is not outdated IMHO. The Starmark warranty on my '01 will be up in Jan. of '08. I plan to sell it privately before Jun/Jul of '07 and get a Starmarked '05.

great thanks guys!!! I'm almost there...looking at a pristine 2000 model w/57K miles, fully loaded (command, v/a phone, xenons, etc.) silver/charcoal; more worth the $$ for me (more car for the $$, its in perfect shape and comes is starmarked), and probably higher resale in the long run than, say, a 2005 c230 or 2004 acura tl, etc...
ps what is your experience with starmark warranty?? Anything you've had to pay for yourself or not covered, etc.?
thanks again.

Mine is not starmarked.... and out of warranty already. The only costly problem was instrument cluster. It seemed to be defective (the left and right LCD - outside temp, clock and gear indicator - screwed up). Unfortunately, it happened couple thousands after it was out of warranty. Tried to claim for warranty but MB did not want to do it. Costed me $1200 ($900 parts + $300 labor)
Other than that, no problem so far...... I maintain the car meticulously, though. Change oil every 3K miles despite MB only recommends every 10K.
I believe as long as previous owner took care of the car, you should not really worry about it. I personally would not bother with warranty.... as all of my cars (european, japanese and even american) so far never needs any warranty work, except recalls.
Somehow I feel that if you love your cars..... your cars would love you back and never give you any problems..... just like human

Wow, sounds like you got zonked! Mine was doing the same thing and the dealership changed every bulb behind the cluster and it works like a champ. I thought $100 with the bulbs was costly but in perspective........

Really?? My dealer told me that they tried to replace the bulbs and it did not work....
One thing that I regret.... I forgot to ask for my old cluster.... should be able to sell it at ebay for couple hundred bucks I guess.....
Well, the work required 3 business days plus over the weekend.... and they lent me a W211 E320...... and... you could guess what I did..... :p Just say I tried to push it so it felt like my E55....

Yep, you should have asked for your old cluster back. In all seriousness, the blown blubs are a very common problem for all 210 E55's. It just sucks to see someone get raked over the coals.
I'm not saying your dealership is crooked but it is not an uncommon occurance. Even if it was a bad cluster, which I've never heard of one going bad in a 210, you could have purchased a used one and come out $700 ahead.

Comfort: W210 E55..... I like stiffer car.
Performance: W210 E55.... I cannot really compare it with W211 E320.... W211 E500 should be more comparable.

My '02 W210 E55 runs like a champ, never had a single problem. It's now almost 3 years old and still runs like the day I bought it.
Outdated? Nope, still faster than 99% of the cars out on the road. As for looks, many of my friends actually prefer the look of the W210 to the W211. It has classic MB lines that give the car an imposing look. Don't get me wrong, I love the style of the W211 too. But the 210 holds it own just fine thank you.

I'm also considering a 2002-3 c32 AMG, which is extremely fast, but feels a bit flimsy compared to the E...

I bought my 02 E55 last year and love the car. No problems and it is fast. Just put new tires, got 20k out of the first set. It had the Dunlops and they were loud and not good at all. Put on Toyos RA-1 (have used these as rain tires on my race car) and what a differanc in ride, handling and noise. Buy the car you will not be dissapointed.

Enjoy your new E55.... you'll enjoy it for sure... unless you have tried the W211 E55 :p
My car is on S03.... I love it..... Much better than the stock Michelin Pilot, IMO
