Searching for an e55
this is certainly an interesting car. but way over valued IMO. I sent them a message to see how firm they are

Noticed the car has Mass. state tags.
Looks like corrosion on the TB and some on the intake runners and on the valve covers. Also the SC seems really dirty or greasy looking. Makes you wonder what the bottom of the car is like on all the aluminum suspension parts along with the steel body parts since being up north.
The body and the paint looks nice on the car seems to be straight. Always ask for drivers seat shots as that’s a normal wear area. V8 Kompressor emblems missing on the fenders. Could be that they just removed them cause they didn’t like them or has something been repainted and they never reinstalled them? Wrong emblem on the trunk.
Just pointing out stuff not trying put the car down.

2006 E55 and 2002 E320
With a budget of $20,000 USD, you should be able to find a good 2005/2006 example of an E55. Find one that has full service records; preferably at the dealer. Obviously fewer owners is always better; but most importantly is that the car is well maintained, preferably at a Mercedes-Benz dealer.
Things to look out for;
1. Transmission service on time.
2. 60K mile service includes fuel filter; an expensive service since the fuel filter is built into a fuel pump or something similar which means an expensive part replacement.
3. I know you're looking for a car under 50K miles, that will be more difficult to find, but don't rule out higher mileage examples that are well cared for. These cars can go easily 200K miles if not more. We know of an example that has gone 400K miles and is still going strong.
4. Get one with higher options. But make sure everything works. The dynamic seats are nice, but they fail.
5. Stock is always a good idea.
6. Biggest problem is Airmatic suspension. A higher mileage car will have met this problem, one that is 12-13 years old but with only 50K miles may not have. Make sure the Airmatic suspension was properly fixed.

I'm still looking.
The silver 65k mile car for sale on the forum here is very nice, but just too far for me right now.
