Motor Mount Heat Shields Are They Really Necessary?
I just replaced the motor mounts on my E55. I ended up using the plastic/rubber covers but did not end up using the heat shield. I only had one heat shield on the passenger side. If heat is such a factor I could just wrap them with foil or foil tape. Any suggestions? The shield only covered the top.

Mercedes placed them there for a reason, and that reason being heat. The heat from the exhaust headers kills these motor mounts over time.
Also your engine belly pan, should have two NACA duct to channel cool air to your motor mounts to keep them cool.
But I suppose that you could cover them in heat resistant foil tape. But whatever you choose to do, they need to be covered in some fashion.
