W211 e55 amg not running correctley

Hi Iv just purchased a 2003 e55 amg

I’m having my first problem. Sometimes the car drives fine and accelerates as it should.

and other times I can’t put no more than 10% throttle input or the car just bogs down and starts cutting out.
when this happens. I turn the car of and turn the key to the second position and wait a couple minutes. Then start the car and everything is fine again.
i have no lights come up on dash and also a friend put a scanner on the car and no codes came up.

it is slightly tuned by msl
headers
xpipe
race cats
fixed pulley
killer chiller
remap

sometimes the car is faultless and sometimes it won’t go anywhere. But if you only use light throttle response it will happily cruise up to 70mph and run fine. As soon as you put you foot down it just dies.

any suggestions would be much appreciated.
as I know nothing about these cars.

It's probably not the IC pump. if that was it, you would just get no boost; OP is saying the engine is actually bogging down

It sounds more related to the mods you have listed. I haven't really heard of a stock E55 motor just cutting out like that. Maybe crank position sensor? Could you post more symptoms and CEL's or codes?

Iv had someone put a snap on scanner on it but nothing came up.

symptoms are really anything over 10% throttle the car seriously cuts in and out bad. And you can put your foot to the floor and it will just die. Not stall but like it goes into limp mode.

Then i turn vehicle of and restart then it’s fine again.

it does idle abit lumpy aswell. I can feel the car shaking slightly. Not sure if this is normal.

I’m not sure on mods as i bought the vehicle like this.
Iv only had it a couple weeks.
Im hoping it’s nothing major. Also the previous owner won’t answer my calls or txts. So I’m assuming it has done it before. Would be handy to see when it started.

car is running fine at the moment.

Also abit of topic but but I keep hearing some sort of motor operating down by my pedals every now and then. More so when I’m in traffic starting and stopping. Is this normal

Also when it does happen and you put you foot down for the first 3-5seconds the car jolts really bad like the power is on-off-on-off before it just dies. Then you let of the gas and apply very little throttle and it will drive normally. Until you increase throttle input again.

No nothing come up relating to symptoms. Car was running fine when scanned but I assume codes would be stored.

Was it scanned with a generic scanner or STAR? Could be fuel related? Has the fuel recall been done?

This. My first thought would be an issue with fuel. Check the pressure in the fuel rail. I had a similar issue where the car bogged down with anything above light throttle after maybe one WOT run. Mine progressed into the car stalling within a week. My problem was a burnt fuel relay, very easy to check. The relay is behind the liner on the passenger side of the trunk. Here's my thread. https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...t-not-cps.html The symptoms aren't exactly the same as yours but it's worth it to check because it's so easy.

Checked with a snapon scanner at my local garage.

it does seem like no fuel or lack off.
i will get it tested and see what that comes bk at. Also I think I need to go to a Mercedes garage and get them to run a dianostics on the car.

A very similar scenario happens on the C32. Replacing the throttle pedal assembly and associated sensor resolves it.

+1, I read a while ago that one of these tubes suck in a lot of air and expand and stops allowing so much air into the engine

That's the SBC pump,(brakes). It feels like it's by the pedals, but it's under the hood, front passenger side. There's an updated pulse dampener and ground wire for that system. Also a recently extended warranty.
My wife's E acted similar to your car when the gas pedal assembly went bad, but you need to check your fuel system first because you need to be on top of that anyway.

My car is running the stock air filters.

also Iv noticed that sometimes you can use very little throttle and the car pulls away nicely. And other times using the same amount of throttle and I shoot off. It’s like there’s no gradual increase. The throttle response is very intermittent if you know what I mean.

Sounding more and more like the throttle position sensor like a few others have alluded to in this thread.

Yes I have read a couple threads and I was thinking TPS.
as with the throttle it feels like it’s either on or off. No gradual increase. The smallest movement in pedal position can be neck snapping sometimes. It’s very hard to drive slow.

also Iv also read that sometimes a faulty pedal will not through up a cel

Not sure if this any help

tried an obdll code reader and these came up

p0106 map sensor
p0174 system to lean bank 2
p0171 system to lean bank 1

Was also thinking vac leak as that can throug a code for map sensor. But if it was a leak cycling the engine on and of wouldn’t sort the problem I would of thought.
any ideas.

Start by replacing the map sensor, Then start checking into your fuel system to see where you are with that.

That sounds like the SBC pump (for the brakes)

Keep in mind that this system is warrantied by Mercedes now, so when it fails you can get it replaced for free.

Same thing with the fuel pump assembly it can start leaking fuel at the gas tank, it's covered under a warranty

well I changed the map sensor. What a nightmare.

now the car is worse.

idle is hunting up and down and it will not rev at all. Stalls out when throttle is touched.

and it’s running really rich. Stinks of petrol when running.

Going to take it to a specialist now.
Just need to find someone who knows what there at
