E55 Lighting Upgrades

I see that some people swap in the w211 e63 headlights into their e55. Is this a plug and play upgrade? I would also like to do LED daytime running lights and fog lights. I know this car uses canbus, so do i need to use any special resistors in the fogs and running lights in order to not trigger a warning light?

We have canbus enabled 194 wedge LEDs for your daytime/city lights. Simple plug and play error free. We also have canbus HID conversion kits for your fogs if interested.

@AZN Optics I'd love a set of 194s for my E55! I run 5500k Osram headlight bulbs, I think you guys make a 5k?

Do HID fogs cause any error code issues?

I installed LEDs on my running lights with Canbus bulbs only, no special resistor. Got it at a local sound shop. For my fog lights, I ordered them from amazon Canbus resistors included. Both were plug n play. Real easy to install.

Sanded and polished original lens with halogen projectors. Then replaced low beam halogen projector with 55w HID's. I replaced high beam, city lights and fogs with LED's I'm very happy with the results. The fogs and city lights might be a tad bright. But I don't run the fogs all the time.

Make sure you seal it with plastic sealant after polishing or it'll quickly haze over again. Reseal every 3-6 months.

Yeah I neglected that, it's too cold now to seal. I'll just buff'em out If I have too.

My headlights are 12 y/o stock with Xenon, lens are too stock. Sanding and buffing works, had two body shop done them, last month I bought kit in AutoZone and did them myself and looks just the same and half the price ($30).

Sanding and clear coating them with automotive clear works great. But you have to pull the bumper and lights to do a proper job.

didnt pull bumper or lights, just taped them up with painters. Sand n buff then applied sealant from kit. Looked way better than hazed lens. Was gonna spend $3-400 on aftermarket lights, instead I spent $27 with military discount at auto zone 👍

My head lights were all fogged up when i bought the car. I've restored quite a few headlights, but even thought the change is drastic, they still never look "new", or crystal clear.
I opted for a set of aftermarket lights, knowing the output is terrible, but I wanted the LED DRLs.

The last step was a Projector retrofit. I chose the morimoto Mini H7 which are very good, but wish I would have gone with the Morimoto DS2 4.0 (note, the 5.0 are out now.)

The output is now amazing, and I am very pleased.

How much fabrication or modification did you have to do to fit them ? I know the EvoX-R are a direct replacement and you basically dont have to do anything outside of swapping them for the stock one.

With these aftermarket housings, Just a simple bracket. It uses the stock adjustments etc, I didnt even have to split the case since there is an access panel underneath.

Spyder Auto PRO-YD-MBW21103-HID-DRL-BK Black LED Projection Headlight

Kenney, Are those Spyder Auto PRO-YD-MBW21103-HID-DRL-CHROME CRYSTAL LED Projection Headlight? If so, how easy/difficult was it to connect DRL? Do you have any photo when DRL is on? Looking into purchasing them in smoke/black and doing the Bi-Xenon Morimoto like yours.

I think it was these exact headlights https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-2003-20...mumc:rk:6:pf:0
They are plug and play, however to get the DRL on, you have to turn the headlights to the first click (driving lights or whatever). Im sure you could wire them a different way, but I just havent had the time with a dozen other projects.

I know i have some pictures of the DRL, but I can find them right now. Let me know if you need any help!

this is the exact configuration i have in the e55 lights https://www.theretrofitsource.com/pr...97,48192,50242
I would say the install in moderate difficulty, just be prepared to have to take them on off a few time to get them right. Since then i have done a few other cars and its gets easier. The cool thing about those e55 spyderlights if you donw have to split the lenses in the oven.

Thanks, I just bought lens only from retrofit for the stock light assembly, hoping to change out the old milky ones. I think I have active light features so I rather keep em instead of getting aftermarket light assembly.

what do you mean by splitting lenses in oven?
