I have looked at many posts and cannot find anybody with my exact problem. I have a regular sunroof in my w211 E55 that has not opened in years. If I try and open it the motor will try but no dice. I tried to turn it using the Allen wrench tool but it will just turn a little in each direction and stop and I do not want to force it. I opened the motor assembly and the pink gear is in perfect shape with no issues as well as the Metal part. I do not know where to go from here? Do I have to remove the whole sunroof? Can I open it by hand aiding the manual method?

I had an issue with my sunroof when a debris from a tow truck flew into my windshield going 80 mph and shatter it and the sunroof. Had MB body shop repaired damaged but sunroof didn't work right; took it back to body shop and they said they had to adjust it by programing the system; at the time, I knew nothing about STAR so I didn't pry into it, however, sunroof still not working right and will take it back in for them to fix and find out how they do it. My sunroof/moonroof open intermittently a couple of inches at a time, and I have to constantly push/hold lever to open. Will follow up when I bring it in to get worked on.
Thanks for the reply. My sunroof will not budge at all so I do not think it has to do with programming. The grease was really hard when I removed the pink gear from the motor assembly. I think it needs to be cleaned and I do not know how to give it a boost to open? Not sure where to go from here? Does anybody know? I really don’t want to take it apart if I don’t have to. Thanks
If the old grease is gummed up you can try spraying some penetrating oil along the rails on both sides. Let it sit for a while then try to open it again working it back and forth and spraying as needed. If it works, you'll need to properly clean the rails and re-lube. Did you try to reset or use the key fob/door convenience open method? https://mbworld.org/how-tos/a/merced...of-open-387029
I can not get the roof to move at all? The manual method doesn’t work to move the roof, it only moves the cable a little in each direction. I think the cable is to corroded? I cannot see the rails if the roof will not move. Where do I go from here? Do I need to rebuild the whole thing? Can I help it budge in some way by pushing the rear down and trying to twist the manual mechanism? I do Not want yo take it into the dealer. Is there a tutorial to do this? Do I need to remove the headliner? I also do not want to jump the gun when the problem might not be what I think?

From the inside, pull back the sun shade, now look at both sides (passenger and driver) get some spray lube (the aerosol can with the little red straw on the nozzle) the less odorous the better. A little squirt goes a long way. You can also employ a small needle and syringe to deliver the lube all the way along the rail. Does the switch do anything, like it wants to work? I would also clean as much corrosion as possible and apply small amount lube to the cable. Of course you have checked the fuse, relay and power supply to the switch. Some pictures of the corrosion would be good. FWIW my sunroof experience come from the W126 which is a little different than the W211.
